Who or what is the spirit of Nativity?
The Spirit of Christmas is believed to appear on the day of the Winter Solstice. The spirit of Giving comes down to Earth, on the last two hours of December 21st, between ten o’clock (pm) and midnight. I believe this generous spirit reaches every home where it is welcomed, and receives the requests and wishes of his believers and distributes them in health, abundance and love for the following year. Legend has it that a beautiful, happy and kind being came to the Nordic lands on that date from a very distant world. He visited the homes of good-hearted people to grant them wishes. His physical appearance is related to Santa Claus or Father Christmas.
To receive the Spirit of Christmas, our family gathers every year, and gets ready to open our hearts and set our good wishes for the new year. Here’s how we do our ceremony and what you need:
1. Colored Candles, arranged in a triangle or star shape on a table.
2.Tangerine placed as a decoration on the table where the candles will be.
3.Paper and pencils, enough for every person.
To start the ritual, light the candles clockwise. Then open doors and windows and recite a welcoming prayer for the Spirit of Christmas to enter your home. Part of our ritual includes a personal reflection in which repentance is shown for individual actions. If a wish list was made the previous year, each request is cut one by one and they are burned, while feeling gratitude for those wishes that were fulfilled. Then we make a new list for the following year, which is passed through the smoke of the incense and the candles (without burning it), folded and stored in a safe place until next December 21.
The occasion is propitious to imagine the Earth charged with light, happiness, peace, love, harmony and with less selfishness, anxiety and sadness. It is a time to reflect, fill yourself with individual and collective purposes and goals that can make a difference in your lives and the lives of the ones you love, or even the entire world.
