Our Clinic of the Week is Beausejour Animal Hospital in Beausejour, Manitoba!

Beausejour Animal Hospital opened its doors in 1978 under the guidance of Dr. Marco Lopez before passing ownership Drs. Claus and Karen Leppelmann in 2001.

In 2019, the clinic underwent extensive renovations to add yet more exam rooms, a dedicated dental suite, enlarged kennel rooms and large animal facilities, which led to an expanded staff of over 50 individuals.

They serve a massive area and help everything from companion animals to dairy herds, cattle, horses, and hobby animals.

They recently added a Companion CTS DUO+ therapy laser to their already impressive list of pain management offerings, giving them a clinically proven and non-invasive way to help treat over 80 acute and chronic conditions.

See how Kavik, a four-month-old Husky mix, was recently saved with the help of Companion Laser Therapy treatment

After his initial parvovirus diagnosis, in-home care was prescribed due to limited funds. Five days later, his owners brought him back due to increased lethargy and an infection the original handlers had tried to self-debride.

Kavik was found to have a maggot infestation of his back, and the handlers agreed to surrender him to veterinary staff. He was then hospitalized, where he received the standard of care for parvovirus, the wounds were debrided, and laser therapy treatments began.

14 laser sessions and five weeks later, he was healed

The clinic believes laser treatments were an essential part to Kavik’s quick healing over the first two weeks, and he now has a loving home where his owner reports the skin and hair in that area are back to normal.

Meet Jaffa, a seven-year-old Labrador who underwent TPLO surgery and was having trouble recovering.

She had a partial CCL rupture in the left pelvic limb that was approached conservatively for three years. A complete CCL rupture was eventually diagnosed, and TPLO surgery was performed 18 days later.

Tramadol was used PRN post-operatively and, due to reduced renal figures, NSAIDS were avoided.

Her road to recovery included laser therapy 2x per week. Three weeks after surgery, Jaffa showed improved weight-bearing, better range of motion, and reduced spinal discomfort.

Regenerative medicine is a field that focuses on repairing, replacing, or creating new tissues in the body to reduce pain, help injured tissue, or return a joint, muscle, or tendon to normal function.

This recent study examined the use of platelet-rich plasma in feline patients with degenerative joint disease (DJD).

Happy National Pet Day from all of us at Companion Animal Health!

One way to help your pet's achy joints in these April showers is with a laser therapy treatment or two. Laser therapy (photobiomodulation) targets your pet’s damaged cells and helps them regenerate faster- much like sunlight helps a plant produce energy.

They recently added a new Companion laser to their practice and couldn't wait to use it on patients like Panda the Frenchie, who was looking too cool for school in protective safety "doggles" during this laser session with clinic technicians.
