I'm so glad summer is almost here. It's wonderful to see kids getting outside. If your child has been cooped up, there are plenty of great parks and hiking trails you can visit. They will appreciate the effort you put into spending time with them. The fresh air and fun is a recipe for a rejuvenated and positive spirit. And the best part is it's free. Hope to see you out there laughing and having a great time together!

"Moms can help their kids if they need help doing something. If your kid needs help writing something, call a child therapist." - says an almost 6 year old.

You are WORTHY.
You are BEAUTIFUL.
You are CAPABLE.
It’s so easy to get down on yourself because of comparisons or wondering why everyone else seems to be better at this parenting thing.
It’s tempting to give up altogether-but don’t. Everyone goes through highs and lows whether you are a stay at home mom or at a corporate job.
But when everything doesn’t go exactly as you had planned, don’t let this change what you think about yourself.
You have accomplished so much even in this past year. You have grown so much. Don’t let a slight hiccup get you down.
You are worthy.

Sit them down. Share a snack. Play a game. Read a story. Anything to connect. As a parent you take the first steps when you listen to them. Your child craves your love and attention. They might not know what to say. When you show them you care, they will tell you what’s wrong, one way or another. From there you can figure out the next steps. If you still feel stuck therapy might be the key to opening your child’s heart and letting in the light.

It’s been 2 months since schools closed. By now children are climbing the walls and want out. And with the warm weather here, who can blame them? It’s literally the equivalent of feeling stuck inside emotionally with no way out. Except kids can go outside, even if they can’t yet use playgrounds and pools. Kids with anxiety and depression literally feel like they can’t do anything. They are frozen in place and even if there was somewhere to go, they are just not ready or may not feel like they ever will be. If you can relate, it’s time to do something about it. Kids should be free, both physically and emotionally. Through my signature program I will help you and your child take the steps toward emotional freedom and happiness.

Today I am grateful that most of our precious children and their families are physically safe in their homes, even if this means temporarily forgoing important life activities, such as school or camp (obviously not the ideal!), as we navigate the new realities we currently live in. It may be challenging to help children understand what is going on and feel safe emotionally. If your child is struggling with strong emotions, you may consider therapy as a means to help them express these feelings and work on self-regulation and actionable changes in whatever is keeping them stuck in counterproductive thought patterns or behavior. It can be challenging to know when these difficulties are just temporal and related to current situations, or representative of their thoughts and feelings about themselves. Through a free 20 minute consultation, we can explore further and take the next steps toward helping your child become unstuck in negative emotions and freed up to enjoy life's pivotal moments.

Children have so much uncertainty today. Will camps open for the summer? When can they go back to school? How much longer before they can see friends and other family? This can be very disconcerting and lead them to feel like they have no control over their life. As parents, you want to help, but maybe aren't sure of the "right" thing to say. You also recognize we are living through difficult times and some of their feelings are based on the reality of the situation.

But because kids do not always understand their feelings or know what to do about them, they don't just talk about them with you and ask for help dealing with them. Instead, their actions, which are often seen as inappropriate, are their attempts to manage anxiety or relieve stress. Like not listening to directions, fighting with siblings, or crying over little things. In therapy, I use a variety of strategies to help your child "act out" their feelings in a healthy way and "talk back" to negative thoughts that keep them stuck in worry or sadness. In 3-6 months, your child can learn to handle strong emotions and know what to do when they come up. Now through virtual sessions, all this can be done from the comfort of your home. Call today (914) 348-3040 to find out more and to schedule your free consultation.
