Park North Patient Testimonial ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gerhard shares his recent physical therapy experience with us—

One frozen shoulder and an impingement on the other brought me to Park North.

I had been worked too hard by an unlicensed exercise coach (beware of this, Readers!).

Entering the Park North offices on my first visit, I was experiencing severe pain and reduced mobility. It struck me how my upper body injuries were felt throughout my body, affecting even my ability to sit, lay down, and walk.

But from that first visit to Park North, I was on the mend. Skilled and experienced staff immediately and properly diagnosed me and developed an individual recovery plan.

I especially owe thanks to physical therapist Divya for her most effective suggestions and positive encouragement. Everything she and her colleagues suggested I was experiencing was subsequently confirmed by the MRI which I received from the medical specialists at Columbia Doctors.

The recommended exercises which Divya suggested immediately helped alleviate my pain and significantly improved my mobility. It was remarkable to move past constant pain and return to my old self and restful nights so quickly.

I credit the tailored daily at-home exercises and the helpful Park North app, which shows in detail and with images the specific movements I needed to make. Ten weeks later, I’m back at the gym quickly regaining strength and speed, just as I’m winding down the exercises recommended by Park North.

No one should live in pain or be left guessing about injuries or relief. Don’t wait or hesitate: The most talented team at Park North has all the answers.

Thank you Divya, Julian, Sam, Carly, and your colleagues for your expertise and kind dedication to help me recover. We are so grateful to have you as part of our Upper West Side / Columbia University area neighborhood!

Exciting Collaboration Alert!

Park North Physical Therapy is thrilled to announce our partnership with Figure Skating in Harlem (FSH) for the remarkable 26th Annual Gwendolyn Simmons “Soul on Ice” Event.

FSH is more than just skating! They offer extensive educational programs, including STEM workshops, and have a track record of 100% of their senior students graduating high school and moving on to higher education.

Join us on February 4th, 2024, at the Wollman Rink for the “Soul on Ice” Winter Skating Party! From 3:30 to 5:30 pm, enjoy an afternoon of music, food, raffle prizes, and the chance to skate with the talented FSH students.

At Park North, we’re not just sponsoring the event. Our team of skilled physical therapists will be offering complimentary treatment to FSH skaters. Plus, for every new patient in February and March, we’re donating $10 in honor of Black History Month.

Discover more about FSH’s transformative work. Your support through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word can make a world of difference.

“I came to Dr. Pape Diagne with severe back and sciatic pain from an injury. It was so bad that I wasn’t sure I’d ever be pain free without surgery, but after 8 weeks of working with Pape I am able to do everything I could do before the injury.

I must add that PT only works if you put the work in. Pape gave me the tools to get better, and went above and beyond to help me. “

Meet Your PT: Samuel Lu

Why did you become a PT?
I believe that PT’s can be at the forefront of healthcare and make an immediate impact and difference in people’s health through conservative care that doesn’t require immediately rushing to take medication or undergoing surgery. Too often we expect a magical pill or surgery to solve everything, but as the saying goes “exercise is the best medicine”, and it has a longer lasting impact in people’s lives than through a temporary solution. I enjoy seeing people progress and go through the process of learning more about themselves and their bodies, and the impact I can have on that.

How do you warm up for a workout? Here are a few components of a good warm up:

1. Cardio Warm-Up: Begin with 5-10 minutes of light aerobic activity to get your heart rate up. This can be brisk walking, light jogging, cycling on a stationary bike or even jumping jacks.

2. Dynamic Stretching: Unlike static stretching, which involves holding a position for a length of time, dynamic stretching is all about movement. Examples include leg swings, walking lunges or arm circles. This prepares your muscles and joints for the range of motion they'll be undergoing during the main workout.

3. Sport-Specific Movements: If you’re preparing for a particular activity or sport, integrate movements related to that. For instance, if you're about to play tennis, mimic some forehand and backhand strokes.

4. Activation Exercises: These target and activate specific muscle groups that will be heavily utilized in your workout. For instance, if you're about to do barbell squats, some bodyweight squats or glute bridges can help activate your lower body muscle
