In optometry we use Snellen visual acuity system.

A person with 20/20 vision can see what an average individual can see on an eye chart when they are standing 20 feet away.
For example, if you have 20/30 vision, it means your vision is less than average. When you are standing 20 feet from the chart, you can read letters that most people see when they are 30 feet away. People are considered “legally blind ” if their corrected vision (with eyeglasses or contacts) is 20/200 or worse 😱. Feel free to ask us any eye related questions you might be wondering about. 👁

What is macular degeneration 🤔 ? Let's talk about it.

So what is the macula? The macula is located in front of the retina in the eye and it is responsible for our center vision. As a matter fact, you are using your macula right now to read.
Macular degeneration also known as AMD is a incurable disease as well as the leading cause blindness and vision loss in America. It causes loss in the center of the field of vision. There are 2 types of AMD. In dry macular degeneration, the center of the retina deteriorates. With wet macular degeneration, leaky blood vessels grow under the retina.
So what can we do to reduce the risk of Macular Degeneration?
1️⃣. Exercise daily and maintain a healthy weight.
2️⃣. Eating a nutritious diet that includes lots of leafy greens,fruits, fish and whole grains.
3️⃣. Cut back on smoking.
4️⃣. Blue light blocker protection on your lenses.
