So, what is Occupational Therapy? According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), it's a “science-driven, evidence-based profession that enables people of all ages to participate in daily living or live better with injury, illness, or disability.” OT practitioners help individuals build independence through personalized strategies and environmental adaptations that unlock their full potential.
Fun fact: OT was officially established in 1917 during World War I, when "Reconstruction Aides" supported the rehabilitation of injured soldiers. It’s a profession with a powerful legacy—and an even more meaningful future.
From activity adaptation and assistive device training to caregiver education, coping skills, and beyond, our OTs are true changemakers.
To our dedicated, dynamic, and visionary OT team—thank you. Your work is life-changing, and we are honored to have you as part of The Arc Rockland family.
Let’s all take a moment this month to recognize and celebrate our OT practitioners!
