Recurrent Neck Discharge or a Small Opening Near the Neck?

It Could Be a Branchial Sinus**

Does your child have repeated discharge, swelling, or a small opening on one side of the neck that keeps getting infected?

This condition may not be a simple infection — it could be a Branchial Sinus.

A branchial sinus is a congenital condition, meaning it develops during the embryonic stage before birth.

In childhood, it often presents as:

Recurrent neck discharge
Repeated infections at the same spot

Temporary relief with antibiotics, but symptoms return again
Antibiotics may control infection for some time, but they do not cure the root cause.

👉 Permanent treatment is surgical removal, which is:
Safe and well-planned
Done after proper tests and diagnosis

Prevents future infections and discharge

Early diagnosis and timely surgery help children live a healthy, infection-free life.

**Jaw Pain, Swelling or Trouble Salivating?

It Could Be a Submandibular Salivary Stone**

Do you feel pain or swelling under the jaw, especially while eating?

Do you have dryness in the mouth or difficulty in salivation?

These symptoms may be caused by a Submandibular Salivary Stone (Sialolithiasis) — a condition where stones form in the salivary gland and block the flow of saliva.

If not treated on time, it can lead to:

Recurrent pain and swelling
Infection of the salivary gland

Difficulty in eating and speaking

Early diagnosis and proper ENT evaluation can help in stone removal with minimally invasive techniques, avoiding major surgery and ensuring quick recovery.

Always Blocked on One Side?

It Might Be a Deviated Septum

🚨 Frequent Nose Bleeding – Don’t Ignore This Warning Sign

💧 A Small Mouth Swelling That Shouldn’t Be Ignored!

That soft, bluish, painless lump inside your mouth could be a Mucocele.

A mucocele is a mucus-filled cyst that forms when a salivary gland duct gets blocked or injured—often due to lip biting, trauma, or dental procedures. Though usually benign, it can grow, rupture repeatedly, and interfere with speech or eating.

🔍 Common Signs of Oral Mucocele:

Soft, round swelling inside the lip, cheek, or floor of mouth

Bluish or transparent appearance

Usually painless but uncomfortable

May increase and decrease in size

Can recur if not treated properly

🩺 Why Early Evaluation Matters

While many mucoceles are harmless, persistent or recurrent lesions need ENT evaluation to rule out other oral conditions and ensure complete treatment.

Treatment options include:
✔️ Clinical examination
✔️ Excision of the cyst
✔️ Removal of the involved salivary gland
✔️ Minimally invasive procedures with quick recovery

👂 Understanding Preauricular Sinus — Types & Treatment

A preauricular sinus is a small, congenital (by birth) pit or opening found near the front of the ear.
It is usually harmless but can become infected repeatedly, causing pain, swelling, or discharge.

⭐ TYPES OF PREAURICULAR SINUS

There are mainly two types, based on how the tract is formed:

1️⃣ Simple/Isolated Preauricular Sinus

A small opening in front of the ear.

Usually unilateral but can be on both sides.

Most cases remain silent without symptoms.

2️⃣ Complex/Branchial Variant Preauricular Sinus

Has deeper, multiple branching tracts inside.

Higher risk of repeated infections.

May be associated with other congenital anomalies (rare).

⚠️ Common Symptoms When Infected

Redness & swelling near the ear

Pain or tenderness

Yellow or white discharge

Fever (sometimes)

Recurrent infections

🩺 TREATMENT OPTIONS

✔️ 1. Observation (If No Symptoms)

No treatment is required if the sinus is silent and infection-free.

✔️ 2. Medication (During Active Infection)

Antibiotics for infection

Anti-inflammatory medicines

Cleaning & drainage if pus is collected

This usually settles the infection but does not remove the sinus tract.

✔️ 3. Surgical Removal (Definitive Treatment)

Recommended when:

Infections keep recurring

Abscess forms

Skin around the sinus becomes thickened

Cosmetic reasons

Surgery involves removing the entire sinus tract to prevent recurrence — done by an ENT specialist.

🩻 Why Surgery Is Important?

Incomplete or repeated infections can lead to:

Scar formation

Multiple sinus openings

More complex surgery later

Early management leads to better outcomes.
