A Legacy of Love and Laughter: Celebrating 40 Remarkable Years with Michelle O.
In 1985, Michelle began her journey on the night shift as a nursing aide, a young caregiver with a heart full of compassion and a desire to make a difference. Over the past four decades, nearly everything has changed: the building, the census, the staff, and even her title. But one thing has remained constant her unwavering love for the people she has had the privilege to serve.
Michelleās transition from the night shift to the role of Activity Assistant marked a turning point in her career. In this new role, she found a space where her creativity, joy, and love for meaningful engagement could flourish. She had the honor of working along side Donna Rosonke until 2013, when she stepped into the position of Activity Director at Kensington, a title she carries with pride to this day.
Over the years, it has been the tenants who have left the greatest mark on Michelleās heart. Getting to know them, sharing their stories, and witnessing their smiles have been the most cherished rewards of her work. Laughter became her language, and connection her purpose.
Of course, her journey wasnāt without challenges. None were more daunting than the COVID-19 pandemic. During those uncertain and isolating times, when families were unable to visit, Michelle became more than just a staff member. She became a surrogate family, offering comfort, companionship, and strength. It was one of the most difficult seasons she has ever faced, but with resilience and compassion, she and her team made it through.
Among the countless unforgettable memories, one moment shines especially bright: the day Michelle hosted the Molly B. Band. The dining room came alive with music, laughter, and love, filled to the brim with tenants and their families, dancing and smiling together. That day captured everything Michelle cherishes about her work community, joy, and connection.
The families and tenants Michelle has met over the last forty years have been nothing short of extraordinary. They have filled her life with purpose and reminded her every day why she chose and continues to choose this path.
