The man behind the magic, Coach Anthony.

Our owner, fixer-of-everything, and the reason Prime exists. From behind the scenes to big picture, he’s the one who turns the lights on (literally and figuratively) and keeps this place running.

He’s the backbone of our community. The reason we get to do what we love every single day. The reason this gym feels like home.

With nearly 20 years in the industry, Anthony is the steady force behind it all. Prime wouldn’t exist without him and honestly, we wouldn’t want it to.

Our Story

Before Prime Movement and Performance was official, our head coach Anthony, spent many years teaching physical education and coaching young athletes in football and track and field. While coaching and training athletes in Brooklyn, NY, he noticed there was something missing from the training landscape, somewhere for young athletes to learn how to train to stay healthy and of course get better. And…Prime Performance was born as a youth performance company in Brooklyn, NY.

At this time Anthony was subleasing space from CrossFit 718 where he was coaching CrossFit classes and doing personal training part-time. He was unable to secure time slots or grow the brand because of limitations both in schedule and space. After the birth of their first daughter, Nellie, Anthony and his wife, Catherine, decided to move back home to Upstate New York. Concerned about leaving a great community behind, they decided to build their own in their new digs. And in August of 2015, CrossFit Utica opened its doors. Meanwhile, Anthony and Catherine were both full-time teachers in local school districts while working to get the business up and running.

After two years of building an amazing community, we decided it was time to really dive in and take on the business full-time. Anthony resigned from his teaching position and focused all of his energy on running the gym. After operating out of a 900 square foot garage for two and half years, we found a new location to call home. Things have come full circle as CrossFit Utica has morphed back into Prime Movement and Performance, a world-class facility bringing the best training possible to the folks living in the Utica-Rome area.
