Everybody knows somebody!

Whether it’s a friend, a family member, or a neighbor — we are all connected to someone impacted by substance use.

This January, we’re honoring Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Month by recognizing the humanity behind the headlines. Because behind every statistic is a person who deserves care, dignity, and a path to recovery!

Let’s reduce stigma.
Let’s raise awareness.
Let’s break barriers.

💬 What do you think needs to change about how we talk about recovery? Let us know in the comments.

Support ISN'T always loud...

Sometimes it’s quiet.
Sometimes it’s unlearning.
Sometimes it’s just showing up.

As we close out the year, we’re reflecting on the lessons that moved us — and the people who reminded us what real compassion looks like!

What did you learn this year about what it means to truly support someone in need? Let us know in the comments. ⬇️

Why is methadone still one of the most stigmatized treatments for opioid use disorder? 💬

Despite being a gold standard in evidence-based care, methadone is often misunderstood — treated as a “last resort” or burdened by rigid, outdated rules that make access harder than it needs to be.

That stigma doesn’t just hurt feelings — it keeps people from getting help! It’s time to change the narrative...

Let’s talk about what real support looks like — and why people deserve options that meet them with dignity, not judgment.

What do you think needs to shift in how we talk about medication-based treatment? Let us know in the comments. ⬇️

Real change starts with real understanding!

When you step into the work of substance use recovery, the biggest lessons often come from the people seeking help themselves.

Our board members, Aaron and Fred, reflect on what they’ve learned (& unlearned) through their direct involvement. From breaking down stigma to recognizing the role of environment and timing, their insights point to one essential truth:

Everyone deserves care the moment they’re ready!
That’s why APT’s Open Access model exists — because asking for help is hard enough. Getting it shouldn’t be.

Share this with someone who should know about APT’s work! 💙

Happy Holidays from the APT Foundation Team! 💙

This season, we’re reflecting on the power of community — how every staff member, supporter, advocate, and partner plays a vital role in helping us meet people where they are.

Whether it’s offering compassionate care, fighting stigma, or walking alongside someone on their recovery journey, we’re so grateful to do this work together!

From all of us at APT: thank you for being part of our mission. Here’s to hope, healing, and connection — today and every day.

Same-day care. Regardless of ability to pay. No waiting weeks for help.

At the APT Foundation, we believe that when someone asks for help, the answer should be yes — and it should be now!

If you walk into our Access Center in New Haven any morning, Monday through Saturday, between 8–11 AM*, you’ll meet with a licensed clinician, receive a full evaluation, and (if needed) begin medication treatment that same day.

THIS is what Open Access looks like!

What would you change if you could reimagine the system?

For those who’ve experienced the barriers, the delays, the stigma — or stood beside someone who has — this question hits close to home. What should treatment actually look like?

Let’s open up the conversation. Share your thoughts in the comments below. 👇

Let's clear up some misconceptions about what real access to care looks like!

From the power of same-day care to the impact of community education — our board members Fred, Aaron, and Mitchell share what more people need to understand about APT and why awareness is everything.

Together, we can reduce stigma, increase understanding, and build a future where everyone knows how to get help when they need it most!

Dr. Lynn Madden reminds us that every interaction — from a flu shot to an ER visit — is an opportunity to connect people to care!

What if we treated substance use disorder like any other health condition? What if medications for opioid use disorder were available not only in specialty clinics — but in every setting where people seek care?

It’s time to reimagine how and where treatment begins. Because the earlier we reach someone, the more lives we can save!

Mission Statement

Founded in 1970, the APT Foundation’s mission is to promote the health and recovery for those who live with substance use disorders and/or mental illness.

Vision

It is the philosophy of the APT Foundation that the disease of addiction must be treated in a holistic way. It is our belief that addiction is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit, affecting a person’s social and emotional functioning, and that treatment must address all of these needs.
