“With regular screening and follow-up for abnormal results, cervical cancer is completely preventable,” says Sangini Sheth, MD, MPH, associate professor of obstetrics, gynecology & reproductive sciences. “This is due to the fact that cervical dysplasia can be identified early and is easily treatable with low-risk procedures.”

Cervical dysplasia is when abnormal cells are found on the cervix. Regular Pap screening is the best way to screen for cervical cancer, as well as testing for human papilloma virus (HPV), the virus that causes most cervical cancer.

As Raghav Sundar, MD, PhD, explains to CURE Today, treatment of gastric cancer can be especially challenging because patients often struggle with eating, maintaining weight, and managing nausea and fatigue. Nutrition is extremely important, and almost all patients diagnosed and treated at Smilow are referred to a nutritionist to help them manage their side effects.

Gastric cancer care highlights eating difficulties, weight loss and side effects showing why nutrition support and clinical trials are key

A new study shows two compounds found in cannabis show potent anti-tumor effects when exposed to ovarian cancer cells, suggesting they could play a role in future therapeutic research.

“This is all very early in the research, so we don’t know exactly what this will mean, but we are increasingly thinking of newer agents and newer ways of targeting cancer and understanding the biology of disease, so this absolutely has potential,” said Elena Ratner, MD, MBA.

A recent study has found that two cannabis derivatives may aid in ovarian cancer treatment. The research indicates that CBD and THC work synergistically, reducing cancer cell growth, spread, and survival.
