Hello and Good Morning everyone! I experienced an accident yesterday and my back is a little tweaked , so I am having a small delay due to meetings and appointments but will be posting new podcasts if not tomorrow, Wednesday. I will be on regular schedule begining on Friday again. In the meantime, please check out the Mediterranean Dish for the BEST healthy eating recipes and healthy living strategies. Good Afternoon everybody! Happy Sunday, I hope everyone is having a productive weekend thus far! The topic of the day is R&R! Rest and Recovery is ESSENTIAL for all aspects of life, but more so for those who are extremely physically active or are exercising with the intention of hypertrophy (building muscle). Rest is the time that our bodies are able to repair all the damage done to it from progressively overloading our muscles and repairing all of the tears in our fibers.
Rest helps to prevent us from developing overtraining syndrome, which is characterized by fatigue, decreased performance, and higher injury rates and risks. Inadequate rest also causes hormonal balances of cortisol and growth hormones. Cortisol is a hormone that indicates levels of stress. Higher levels of Cortisol impedes muscle growth, causes stress, promotes overtraining, and increases fat storage!
Well rested muscles replenish glycogen stores and allow for optimal performance. It allows our muscles, ligaments, and tendons to recover, strengthen, and reduce strains and tears.
Rest also ensures that our mental health is properly being looked after. It helps reduce stress and the hormones associated with it. Our brains out a "muscle"
In and of itself and should be respected as such as well. We should practice mindfulness, situational awareness, reading and studying, and puzzle/mond games as well to train and keep the brain active. After doing so, rest to restore it to a peak state.
Please take this seriously as I believe it is just as, if not more important than the other aspects of fitness and can literally make or break you if not utilized properly. Happy first weekend of Summer! Hope you all kick this weekend off with a beautiful hike, cookout, beach trip, fishing, or just quality family time! 2024 is going to be a year of happiness, success, and fun for myself and you all alike! My son and significant other are on their way to Canada to see Niagara Falls for a 5 day stay. I am pursuing a dream and a passion and to do so, sacrifices are necessary. It is hard and pains me, but through that pain and suffering, growth, development, and character are formed. I love you all and appreciate the support I am receiving on this page this far! Hello, Happy Friday! It is officially the first day of Summer! Please stay safe this year and make sure you keep hydrated and apply plenty of sunscreen, especially on the young ones! Physical activities, eating healthy summer cookout foods and salads, and doing outdoor events as a family is extremely important for your child's and your own happiness, mental health, and physical well being. Please do not sit indoors all summer playing video games and screen staring, it's unhealthy and it's not fair that children be robbed of the experience of enjoying the great outdoors and creating REAL memories, not just posting a picture with a fake smile and a caption, fabricating a story that did not happen as they are telling it. Today's recommendation for a healthy activity, FISHING! Connecticut has so many amazing fishing spots as a shoreline state and just as many freshwater gems! I personally know lots all over the state , so feel free to message me for recommendations 😁 Get out there, enjoy your summer, and make those memories your kids will cherish when they are older and pass on to their kids.
