Are you familiar with the 20-20-20 rule for using a computer?🧐

Every 20 minutes...
Look at something 20+ feet away...
For 20 seconds.

This is to protect your eye sight and keep from eye fatigue!

Fortunately, this is currently my view from my "office" window. .

Be intentionally open to being uncomfortable. Feel fear, say hello, then push it out of the way.

Fear is just our ego trying to stay unbruised.

Discomfort is just our brain wanting us to stick with what it knows. Resisting needing to rewire itself to something new.

Push through it. On the other side of that discomfort is everything that dreams are made of.

Have you ever had a goal that you were working towards, and at some point it felt like you might not achieve it (even though the deadline hadn't passed) and you allowed yourself to feel disappointed?

It's called preemptive disappointment and it's a defense mechanism that most of us employ to "soften the blow" (that we think might come).

What if, rather than feeling disappointed, we shift to feeling excited. Excited for how much is going to happen in a short time? Excited for the achievement of a goal?

That is my charge to myself this week. No more preemptive disappointment. Excitement, all the way.

Gardening is such a powerful activity. It brings humility, awe and feelings of accomplishment.

When we garden, we actually do so little to make food. We do our best to provide an ideal environment (impossible) but it's the seed, soil, and sun that perform the miracle.

If you can, get out into nature. (At a safe distance from other humans.) Listen to the sounds. Smell the air. Look at everything coming to life. There is little more healing.

I know being able to go to a place like this so close to my house is a privilege. If you can't get out, I recommend forest sounds playlists on YouTube. Also try jungle rain playlist. Both lift my spirits and calm me.

I used to eat yogurt, fruit, and granola for breakfast every morning.

And every morning, I was hungry by 10 am. 🤦‍♀️ (You know that feeling of eating lunch at 10 am only causing serious hunger at 3 that is satiated by whatever is on the free counter at work? 🍪🍩🍭)

I noticed an immediate difference in my day to day when I switched to a protein shake breakfast. Not only was I not hungry at 10 I also had:

✔️ More energy
✔️ Less cravings
✔️ More focus in the morning

Overall, I just felt better. 🦸‍♀️

When using a protein shake you want to make sure you are getting complete nutrition. This means adding🥑 good fats and 🥬 veggies!

When selecting a protein, avoid whey (which is dairy... leaves people feeling bloated) and soy (known for being difficult to digest).

Look for a protein base of: pea, brown rice, cranberry, h**p, and even mushroom (I have never tried it, but I hear it exists!)

Got a favorite shake recipe? Share it in the comments!

I have a new (unintended) habit. 📺 I blame The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. (So good, btw.)

That habit isn't serving me, though, and it does nothing to move me towards my goals.💪

Any time we change a habit we need to "shape the path". we need to make the new thing just as easy, or even easier, to do than the old thing.

For example, when on an eating plan it is worth it to always have approved snacks with you. then, when you feel hungry, it will be just as easy to eat the healthy thing you brought as it is to eat the 🍪🍩🍭

To stop watching TV in the evening, I covered it with a blanket, set my book up in front of it and hid the remote. Reading (new habit) is now officially easier to do than tv (old habit).🦸

Although it looks like this is just another picture of my cat and I, it isn't!

But since you mentioned it, isn't she gorgeous?

This post is actually about the blue light blocking glasses on my face!

See, I developed an eye twitch about 2 weeks ago. I assumed it was from the increased screen time I've been getting from the WFH situation.

At any rate, I decided to try some blue light blocking glasses. They are inexpensive and although there isn't a lot of evidence that they help, I figured they couldn't hurt.

I actually think they have helped me a lot! The eye twitch is mostly gone, and I often forget that I even have them on. I recommend giving them a try!

Another tip I've learned is 20-20-20: every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Why I’m Here.

I believe that everyone deserves to feel vibrant inside and out.

Maybe you are like me. As I moved from my 20s into my 30s I noticed some great things: more confidence about who I am as a person, less caring about what other people thought, and the ability to be bold in ways I hadn’t before. I also noticed some not-so-great things: decreased energy, aches and pains (and random injuries), increased anxiety, and GI issues associated with food and beverages that I used to consume in mass quantities (ahem, beer.) They say you are only as young as you feel, and I was feeling old.

Something needed to change. I could, of course, go to a doctor and see several specialists and $3000 later have a prescription for a pill that I take every day, for the rest of my life, that would allow me to continue consuming anything I wanted. However, I have always been solution-oriented and in this case, pharmaceuticals feel like a band-aid. (Note: I don’t advise avoiding your doctor. If you have something concerning going on, please see a doctor.)

Instead, I decided to shift my focus on taking better care of myself. I’ve tried different things, and continue to learn of new possibilities to try. I want to share these and start a conversation around feeling great. Please join me.
