The city of New Haven is distributing 5400 at-home COVID tests this Thursday and Friday at the following locations. There is a limited supply so it is best to arrive on time. Proof of residency is required, which could include an ID, piece of mail or bill. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, like fever, chills, cough, body aches, nausea or vomiting, please do not leave your home to pick up a test. Instead call the clinic and we will try to get a test delivered to HAVEN patients.

🚨 ACTION ALERT: Take action in support of expanding access to outpatient dialysis treatment to be covered under emergency Medicaid for undocumented individuals. SIGN THE PETITION! 👉 https://bit.ly/EmergencyMedicaid.

"Maria", an uninsured undocumented woman with end stage renal/kidney failure, has been trapped in Yale New Haven Hospital for 7 months away from her family. This because CT REFUSES to cover outpatient dialysis under Emergency Medicaid, but it does cover INPATIENT dialysis treatment. So the only way she can receive the life-sustaining treatment she needs is to stay hospitalized to receive inpatient dialysis treatment. Her other option would be to leave the hospital and wait until her life is in danger to be admitted back into the emergency room. This is a terrifying existence.

CT needs to change its policy and allow outpatient dialysis treatment to be covered under emergency Medicaid for undocumented individuals like many other states already do. This does not need to pass through the state congress; Governor Lamont and HSS can make this change NOW. Send a letter DIRECTLY to Governor Lamont and demand that he take action 👉 https://bit.ly/EmergencyMedicaid

Dear Supporters of HAVEN Free Clinic,

The COVID-19 pandemic represents an unprecedented challenge to our clinic and our patients. In response,
our clinic has worked hard to promote our patients' health and safety, moving to remote visits while
maintaining access to the range of services we have always strived to provide.
Beyond the challenges of ensuring access to quality health care, we as a clinic have been confronted
with the stark economic realities that many of our patients face. The faltering response of our government
has been inadequate and has unjustly left many behind, and nowhere is that more apparent than among
the communities we serve.
As such, our clinic is working with Junta for Progressive Action and the Semilla Collective to better support
our patients. Junta for Progressive Action has launched a new program to assist families with rent and
utilities payments as well as diaper delivery, and the Semilla Collective is providing cash aid and food
delivery. These organizations are strengthening our community through giving directly, building a more
inclusive network of mutual support and bringing neighbors together despite our physical distance.
In addition to raising critical funds for these initiatives, our volunteers will provide the manpower needed to
expand capacity to reach more families. We are also partnering with Junta to develop bilingual public health
communication materials tailored to their participants.
We are asking supporters of our clinic to stand in solidarity with us and the communities we serve by
donating directly to Junta for Progressive Action and the Semilla Collective’s New Haven Area Mutual
Aid Fund. We have heard from many of you asking for ways to contribute to our work, and we hope you will
help us look beyond the clinic walls and direct your contributions to these funds. We as a community have
the collective resources to weather this crisis together.
You can find out more about these programs and where to donate below. We appreciate your support!

Our Story

The HAVEN Free Clinic is a student-run primary care clinic that partners with Yale University to provide the New Haven community access to comprehensive, high-quality health care free of charge. Our model is unique because we include members across various disciplines in health care, including medicine, nursing, physician’s associate programs, and public health.

We serve as a sustainable free clinic that provides uninsured adults in New Haven with primary care, wellness education, and assistance in securing health care while simultaneously educating health professional students at Yale about patient care and community health. Since opening our doors in November 2005, we have conducted over 4000 adult patient visits, representing more than 450 unique patients. Patients are seen by teams of senior and junior students with guidance from faculty preceptors. Currently, we see an average of 20 patients per week. HAVEN operates Saturdays from 9 AM-12 PM out of the Yale Physicians Building. Our programs are targeted to residents of the New Haven neighborhood. We are able to do this work through generous contributions from students, faculty, and philanthropic donors. We are especially fortunate to have the support of the Dr. John B. Goetsch Endowment, which will continue provide support to the clinic for years to come. We invite you to partner with us in this important work.
