"Mom Usually Has a Feeling…the Right One."

Think you’re going to discover a new world?
Think you’re ready to be bold?
As any mom would say,
You’re better off doing what you’re told.

Going on a date with a new guy,
With nice hair and some charms?
Over there you’ll see mom,
Cold eyes and crossed arms.

Mom knows the future,
Her hindsight is twenty-twenty.
When you need advice on the right path,
Mom has got plenty.

Think you’re sneaking a cookie?
Think you’ll get away with some fun?
Mom usually has a feeling,
And it’s usually the right one.

"Spring Sorrow: 60 Today, 20 Tomorrow"

She danced in shorts under the sun,
Declared, “At last! Spring has won!”
The robins chirped, the skies were blue,
The trees perked up like something new.

The sidewalks sang of warmer days,
The snowdrifts lost in golden haze.
“March is done,” she said with cheer,
“No more Michigan winter to fear!”

But Grandpa chuckled, shovel in hand,
A knowing smirk, a weathered stand.
“My dear,” he said, “don’t trust the sun—
This battle isn’t nearly done.”

“I’ve seen it flip from warm to white,
In less than one long northern night.
Sixty now? That’s just a trick—
Tomorrow comes, and it’ll stick.”

“Years ago, I was twenty today,
And before I knew it, turning sixty tomorrow.
I’ve learned to be patient, and keep my coat close,
To avoid our annual Michigan spring sorrow.”

She laughed it off, ignored his say—
Then woke to a fresh blanket on April’s day.
The robins hushed, the branches bowed,
And just like last year, it had snowed.

"That’ll Keep ‘em Busy for a While."

Deep in the hills where shamrocks grow,
Lived a young Mother Leprechaun, typically going with the flow.
Her children, taking a brief pause from their devices,
Relentlessly shared their agony of screen time a long time ago.

On the verge of caving in, a feeling every parent must know,
Tempted to see how far a child she could throw,
She remembered her years growing up and shouted,
“I’ll ask dad! When it comes to keeping kids busy, he’s a pro!”

To keep them from mischief, he spun a grand tale,
Of a pot full of gold at the end of the rainbow trail.
“Find it, my dears, and riches you’ll see,
But only the wisest can set the gold free!”

Through valleys they searched, through rivers so wide,
Climbing up mountains, so eager with pride.
They dug in the dirt, they peered under stone,
Each whisper of wind was a hint to be known.

Seasons passed, yet they never found,
A glimmer of gold across the soft, mossy ground.
Still, Mother just smiled and let them explore,
Knowing they’d learn something richer in store.

They found love in the chase, joy in the run,
Laughter in moments beneath the warm sun.
For the greatest of treasures, the truth of the gold,
Was not in a pot—but of their journey to be told.

"You Don't Have to Get Me Anything"

“Good morning my wife, my dear.
I want you to know,
I’m approaching you with curiosity, not fear.
I’m having a tough time deciding,
On what you might want this year.”

“Oh honey, you’re all that I need,
My heart is filled with love, not greed.
On my hand is already a ring,
So for this year you don’t have to worry, or scurry,
You don’t have to get me anything.”

Valentines is just a Hallmark holiday,
Invented to sell cards and flowers.
The day is like any other,
It has no special powers.
You don’t have to get me anything.

I’ll say it again,
You don’t have to get me anything.
You already give me everything.

But…just in case you have a free minute,
And no pressure at all.
I wouldn’t complain,
If you found yourself at the mall.
For no longer than six to eight hours,
And maybe found something small.
Just for reference, it’s probably best you knew,
My favorite colors are Valentino red and Tiffany blue.”

January's cartoon is here!

Who's keeping track anyway?

2025 was to be the year,
Of Santa’s fitness goals becoming clear.

To get motivated to do more,
Would require an evolution,
Something much greater,
Then another broken new year’s resolution.

As Santa looked out his window,
The sky full of fresh snowing,
He hollered for Rudolph,
“Bring the sleigh, let’s get going!”

“Rudolph, my good friend,
Every year I ask kids to be nice.
So they all put out cookies,
To secure their status on the list I’ve checked twice.

But those cookies add up,
To an amount this belly can’t hold,
I’m ready to try something new,
Perhaps something bold.”

Rudolph smiled with glee,
For he knew of a nearby challenge,
An activity Santa had never seen under a tree.

“Off to the gym for some sit-ups!”
Rudolph started shouting.
Quickly Santa stopped smiling,
Patted his belly, and even began pouting.

Santa replied, “You know,
There may be a few more cookies in my sleigh,
A few more I can tuck in,
Who’s keeping track anyway?”
