Believe Iberia Counseling is fortunate to celebrate 2 years in business!

Dear Year 2:
I can’t thank God enough for placing me exactly where I am today. As I reflect back on starting this process during the covid-19 pandemic, I never thought it would create the opportunities that it has, nor would it impact as many people as it has. I have served well over a few hundred clients, a few celebrities, accepted a few awards, spoken on a few panels, created pipelines with a few Fortune 500 companies, and a LOT of hours of probono work. And on top of that, to be able to GROW in the same garden that I was planted IN… GOD is good and mental health is real 😎 To all the young entrepreneurs: BET on yourself, find new ways to self-motivate, find ways to fund doing what you love, keep your day 1 mindset, remember why you started, and become a master of taking loses and preserving!!!

I look forward to year 3 with prayers for continued success and the ability to continue help to others through my craft.

Lack of awareness is a major barrier to appropriate mental health care in communities across the country. Other barriers include the cost of counseling and, of course, the “stigma” of seeking help. I’m often asked how does one find a therapist or how to even begin the counseling process. My first recommendation would be to utilize Psychology Today. This website is a great tool to locate a therapist in your local area. It even has options to filter for a therapist based upon specific preferences, such as, cost, type of insurance, counseling approach, gender, etc. Being aware of this resource could potentially save a life. Be aware

Seasonal “Coincidence” or Seasonal Affective Disorder?

As we push our clocks back an hour in reference to Daylight Saving Time, some will benefit and take advantage of the extra hour of sleep, however, some of us will experience increased depressive symptoms or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Seasonal Affective Disorder is a type of depression in which it’s mostly seen at the beginning of fall, spanning throughout the winter months. Symptoms of SAD includes trouble sleeping, difficulty focusing, increased anxiety/depression, feeling sluggish or listless. Research shows that less exposure to sunlight tends to lower our mood, especially in individuals who are susceptible to being anxious or depressed. This is because the change in time disrupts our circadian rhythms which act as our Mood Regulating Center (influences our sleep-wake cycle, when we feel tired, fall asleep, and wake up). Ultimately, with less sunlight exposure, individuals spend more time indoors, become more sedentary, and show increase in anxiety and depression. If you’re unsure whether this is a seasonal “coincidence” or you may be experiencing what we know as “seasonal depression”, here’s a few reminders:

Spend time outdoors in the sunlight, especially in the morning

Exercise 30 minutes daily

Stay connected to your friends and family

Adjust your sleep schedule

Talk to your P*P about Vitamin D consumption
