The International Day of Sign Languages is commemorated on this day since the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) was founded on this day in 1951, as a result of efforts by the WFD in 2017.

Did you know there are around 72 million deaf individuals in the world? The World Federation of the Deaf provided this data. Over 300 distinct sign languages are used by these people together. Many people are unaware that sign languages are natural languages in their own right.

The idea for Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated throughout the latter half of September and the first half of October, began as a way to promote the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic-Americans — specifically, those whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Communities mark the achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans with festivals and educational activities.

August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Delaune's Pharmacy has proudly partnered with the Louisiana Department of Health to offer FREE Narcan for Iberia Parish residents.

The CDC estimates that 80,000 people in the U.S. lost their lives to drug overdoses last year. Overdose can affect anyone, and awareness saves lives. Know the signs to spot an overdose: -Slow or no breathing -Unconsciousness -Pale, cold, or blue skin/lips -Gurgling or choking sounds If you see these signs: -Call 911 immediately -Administer naloxone (Narcan) if available -Stay with the person until help arrives We're coming together to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and support those affected. 💜
