At Moss Therapy, we love using books to facilitate early language development, encouraging pre-literacy skills, applying literacy skills into reading and introducing reading to learn! Books are important for all ages and all stages as children grow! 🗣️🌟 📘

Mrs. Madisyn and her client read the book “The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey” then completed a visual sequencing tasks by feeding pictures from the story to our little old lady! This tasks targets language comprehension by identifying and/or labeling objects, sequencing visuals while using connecting words “first, then, next and last”, and following 2-3 step directions!

Miss Lilli and her client are working hard on the /K/ sound by utilizing sour spray to retract the tongue back 😝 and using our Mega Mouth to provide a visual for correct positioning of the tongue 👅!!

✨ What is Articulation Therapy? ✨
Articulation therapy helps children learn how to clearly produce sounds so their speech is easier to understand. During sessions, speech therapists break down tricky sounds, teach correct tongue/lip placement, and practice through fun, motivating activities—like games, stories, and play-based drills! 🎯

As we finished up AAC Awareness month, we had a huge accomplishment for the AAC community in our clinic!!! Mrs. Madisyn and our client with hearing loss have been trying different AAC and speech generated devices to help her communicate with peers and order at restaurants to make her life more functional as a multimodal communicator! This client has found it easier to use a keyboard to text her thoughts/wants/needs and FINALLY we have found an app on her phone that creates text-to-talk! This app allows our client to use her VOICE!! Also, it collects the voices of the speaker and types it out for our client to read!!! This is FUNCTIONAL communication!!

For practice, Mrs. Madisyn and her client played Trivial Pursuit, which is a challenging trivia game. The app types out questions asked by Mrs. Madisyn and our client used text to respond, then her response is speech generated!

Our therapists are encouraging speech and language skills through a fun “trick-or-treat” activity! Clients practice social communication skills like knocking on the door, using greetings, and saying or pointing to “trick or treat” to receive candy. This provides a fun (and maybe even new!) experience for our clients in a safe, supportive environment with their peers and therapists. 👻✨
