Traumatic grief! Part one

Most of us at one time or another have experienced trauma. As I have delved into my journals, I realized for the first time that Cherryn’s death was trauma. One of the most valuable lessons I learned from that moment and from reading my journal is that all trauma has grief. Trauma victims often forget to go through grief. I experienced the ultimate trauma when Cherryn passed away....

At the crossroads!

After loss, we come to a crossroad, where, when we look back, it is not the same as it was. Looking ahead, we cannot see what is ahead. We are in a state of limbo. At that moment, I couldn’t stand to be in the place that I live without them and felt like I couldn’t move forward to a new place without them beside me. ...

After loss, we come to a crossroad, where, when we look back, it is not the same as it was. Looking ahead, we cannot see what is ahead. We are in a state of limbo. I felt that with the death of both Cherryn and Matt. At that moment, I couldn’t stand to be in the place that I live without them and felt like I couldn’t move forward to a new place without them beside me. So I remained at the crossroads until I could move through them into the life that will be.

A small excerpt from today's post.

Grief and the holidays

This time of year is filled with traditions, family gatherings, and memories. Please remember they are the grieving memory, not yours. You cannot "understand" what they are grieving. If this is your first time hearing my journey, I have grieved the loss of my daughter, Cherryn, since 2013, and my son, Matthew, since 2018. My holidays have sometimes been bittersweet because of their absence....

When Faith and Grief collide!

Grief is a universal experience, but when it strikes at the core of our dreams—whether through the loss of a loved one or any event that we experience loss—it can shake our faith to its very foundation. We may believe in God’s goodness yet wonder why He allows such pain. The struggle to reconcile faith with grief is one of the most profound challenges we face as believers....

Anticipatory grief

I have met a handful of people dealing with this type of grief, and I thought I would touch on the subject again. Anticipatory grief is the experience of mourning a loss before it actually happens. It often arises when someone is facing the impending death of a loved one, their own terminal illness, or other significant life changes such as divorce, moving, or losing independence due to illness....

Understanding Prolonged Grief Disorder

What Is Prolonged Grief Disorder? Prolonged grief disorder is a condition marked by enduring feelings of intense loss that persist for an extended period and substantially impair a person's ability to function in everyday life.
