Cumberland Hospital is proud to have served patients and their families since 1983. The very foundation of our quality care is the people who have chosen to work here and dedicate their professional lives to the clinically complex patient population that we serve. Cumberland Hospital’s Tenure Tree was designed to honor those staff who have helped us grow throughout the years. Employees who have 5 to 9, 10 to 14, 15 to 19 and 20 years plus of service are recognized with plaques on the Tenure Tree and those with 20 plus years of service are honored by being placed amongst the roots of our tree, symbolizing how integral they have been to our facility’s growth.

Cathy Fudella began her career at Cumberland Hospital on September 3, 1983. For the last 40 years, Cathy has dedicated herself to the patients and staff of Cumberland Hospital. It is the hope of all employees that they can make a difference in the lives of our patients and their co-workers and throughout Cathy’s tenure she has accomplished that time and time again. Cathy’s current job, serving as a Receptionist, allows her to serve as the “face” of Cumberland Hospital to visitors and patients alike and we could not have chosen a more perfect embodiment of the tenets of Service Excellence and quality patient care than Cathy!

This week's Healthcare Hero is Ender! Ender’s supervisor had this to say about him, “Ender has a great attitude and is always willing to help out wherever he can, even volunteering to assist other departments when needed. In fact, in his first two months of employment he worked a primary role that is not part of his job description. Ender is very eager to learn and expand his responsibilities. He has been a great addition to the Cumberland Team and I look forward to seeing him continue to grow in his new role!” Congratulations, Ender, thank you for your dedication to Service Excellence!

On Wednesday, we celebrated our employees for taking part in this year’s Employee Satisfaction Survey. These surveys are a valuable way for us to ensure we’re creating the best possible workplace for our team and the highest quality care for our patients. A big thank you to our Human Resources team for showing their appreciation by providing a delicious Chick-fil-A lunch!

Do you know of a child or adolescent that is in need of inpatient eating disorder services? Our specialized program, RISE (Renewing Identity, Self-Confidence and Empowerment), might be what you are looking for.

The program consists of 16 beds for all patients with three beds being used for those patients who are non-compliant with NG tube feeding. Patient ages range from 6 through 17 with case-by-case review for ages 2 to 5 and 18 to 22. RISE can help with a range of issues that can result from an eating disorder. We treat a variety of diagnoses including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and other specified feeding or eating disorders (OSFED). Patients work through phases that help them practice varying degrees of responsibility and autonomy over their meals and activity. This allows for more predictability, provides clear expectations for advancement and fosters camaraderie with others on similar paths. Individualized interventions are considered by the treatment team if needed.

Yesterday, we celebrated three Cumberland Academy high school graduates! The three graduates were dressed to impress in traditional caps, gowns and of course, tassels. They completed a formal walk to the area where they would be honored by staff that were also dressed in graduation attire.

One of our patients gave an inspiring speech while two other patients sang “Rise Up.” We would like to thank Paulette, ADON, for her words of wisdom as the guest speaker; Pam, Education Director, for handing out the certifications; Patient Relations Coordinator, Sherry, for handing out the gifts and Fende, Case Manager, for being our presenter. We are very proud of our three graduates!
