🌈Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Third Wednesday of each month
For families who have experienced a loss and are now pregnant or considering trying again.

☀️You Are My Sunshine - Third Thursday of each month
For families who have experienced miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, or early infant loss.

Both groups meet from 6-7:30 pm. Walk-ins are always welcome, but we encourage you to register at www.silvercross.org or by scanning the QR code.

Ron Robinson remembers watching a group of devoted women planting small flags for Memorial Day displays outside Silver Cross Hospital last year, where he works as a nutrition services aide.

“I was so inspired by what they were doing, I told myself I’m going to do that next year,” said Ron, of Joliet, a 20-year Army veteran who served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.

Rita Larson and the “Golden Girls,” as Ron affectionately calls them, are members of our hospital auxiliary Childerguild, which celebrated its 75th anniversary of the Childerguild Gift Shop in June of this year. The auxiliary has helped raise more than $6.8 million for Women and Children’s health services at Silver Cross.

In May of this year, Ron walked into the Childerguild Gift Shop in the lobby of Silver Cross and asked to help with the flags. The flags are at every entrance possible at the main campus – and in flower/plant pots across the hospital. Not only did Ron show up early to help put them out, but he also came back when it was time to take them down.

Ron said he was honored to help. “All the people I met during my time in the service. Some who didn’t make it. I was remembering them. It made me feel good,” he added.

The Silver Cross Center for Breast Health is one of the busiest and most renowned in our region! And for good reason: We’re the ONLY hospital in Will County accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) – the gold standard in breast care. ⭐

The NAPBC was created to help facilities like Silver Cross deliver high-quality care for breast disease that considers the entire patient, setting the standard for compassionate, personalized, and coordinated care. The NAPBC emphasizes providing the best possible care to improve quality of life – from diagnosis to recovery.

And thanks to the generosity of Childerguild, our Center for Breast Health now has a brand-new ultrasound machine (the GE Logic E10), which is used to further evaluate abnormalities found during a mammogram, physical exam, or breast MRI – or to guide procedures like biopsies. Ultrasound helps differentiate between fluid-filled cysts and solid masses, and can be a supplemental screening tool, especially for women with dense breasts.

💗🧸 Our volunteers understand the anxiety families face when visiting the emergency department with their child. For weeks, Ella, Siena and Cole collected toys from their family, friends and neighbors to bring comfort and joy to our littlest patients. Silver Cross is lucky to have wonderful volunteers like these three, who not only support the hospital, but more importantly our patients and their families!

John Pye not only survived a deadly heart attack a year ago but was able to take a very special walk on the anniversary of his release from Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, thanks to the care by a host of medical experts, including the team from the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab at Silver Cross.

John was playing pickleball in Mokena on July 1 of last year. The next thing he remembers was waking up at Silver Cross 20 days later.

EMTs rushed him to Silver Cross, where he was admitted to Cardiac Intensive Care, where doctors replaced a pacemaker with one that included a defibrillator. He had been without oxygen for a total of 12 minutes. He spent many of the following 20 days intubated and unconscious.

Being without oxygen for so long meant there would be a lot of work to do to regain some normal functions, including swallowing, walking and using his hands. He needed to find a facility to help him rehabilitate. Enter Dr. Megan Parkes, Medical Director of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab at Silver Cross Hospital, who shared the good news with John and his wife, Nancy.

“She told us AbilityLab therapists at Silver Cross could work with him, and we were just overjoyed,” Nancy said. “I hugged her, I was so happy.”
