Got the Monday blues? Try this: send a message (via work chat, email, text, doesn’t really matter) to 10 people. Just say “Hi, how was your weekend?” That’s it. See what happens. 🥰

***Monee Historical Society/CSCVB Facebook Takeover***

"A Peaceful Autumn Day"
Andrew Severin Gunderson was a renowned Monee artist and resident. Most of his works are landscapes, drawn from his incredible imagination. The Monee Historical Society is proud to display many of his works at the Monee Heritage Center.

The Village of Monee recently installed a round-about on the corner of Egyptian Trail and Court Street, named in his honor. The home where Andrew lived still stands at this corner. Coming in 2024, the Monee Historical Society will participate in the dedication of the round-about.

Stop in and take a look at all the beautiful artwork as well as the historic limestone building, which we are proud to call our home.

An amazing find!

William Duguid, a Scottish immigrant textile importer based in Boston, is the subject of this engaging portrait. In 1773 he sat for Prince Demah, a painter of African descent, who was the "property" of merchant Henry Barnes. Impressed with his talent, Barnes took him to London in 1771, where he stud...

Though much of genealogy these days can done online and remotely, there’s still plenty of times you need to hit the road and go to the courthouse, historical society, or cemetery. In addition, the perspective you get actually being in the towns your ancestors were from is priceless and can’t be fully appreciated from your couch.
