Meet this power couple and Hiker Highlight of October LINDSAY & MATT McCOY!
"Optimal experience is thus something that we make happen. For a child, it could be placing with trembling fingers the last block on a tower she has built, higher than any she has built so far; for a swimmer, it could be trying to beat his own record; for a violinist, mastering an intricate musical passage. For each person there are thousands of opportunities, challenges to expand ourselves.” -Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience
Lindsay just saw the Grand Canyon trip being offered and knew she just wanted to go for it, and Matt was happily along for the ride!
Matt said that is "typical Lindsay" to want to face challenges and take them on (and after getting to know her, we agree!). Matt said he "thrives on doing things that scare me and what helped me the most was just going for it, but safely with expert guides who were there to teach me, support me, and show me the way!"
Lindsay and Matt LIVE this in their daily lives. They are parents to 4 amazing, bad ass kids(who go after their dreams as well!). Matt is a published author and Lindsay is a prenatal & birth education expert- check out her amazing work Body Ready Method! We admired that they are DEEP into their parenting stage but still prioritize time away for adventuring and to fill up their souls. This is of course difficult to do but they are no strangers to doing the "hard" thing for the betterment of everyone.
When they're not knocking it out of the park being amazing parents, or crushing their professional goals, they are ADVENTURING! They just visited Machu Picchu for their anniversary and last winter the whole family was taking on the slopes for some epic ski trips!
Lindsay said "Nervousness is just unrealized excitement. Find the right people to help you feel calm and who have the knowledge to help you and those nerves will realize their true potential."
A big takeway for her was; "That I am strong and capable. That it is okay to ask for and receive help along your journey. And the biggest takeaway is the fact that GRIT is more important than pretty much anything else. We can't control everything that happens, but we CAN control our response and mine was to just keep going. And that is something that will continue to serve me well through life."
Lindsay and Matt joined in for the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim 2024 trip and did they ever get a TRIP! They took on 115 degree temperatures, long miles (due to a closure and reroute) and HEAVY water carries due to the closures that happened. While everyone on the trip carried MORE then their share of water, Matt helped the guides out and carried an extra 10lbs of water on top of his share. And he did it with a SMILE.
That's who Lindsay and Matt are.
They are positive, uplifting, intelligent, and kind hearted. We were blessed to get to adventure with them and the entire group was better off because of them!
We can't wait to see where they go next!
