As we lead up to National Leadership Day, we’re highlighting programs that help people grow as leaders. The Emerging Leaders Program is a key example of leadership development in action at the Perry County Board of Developmental Disabilities and across Perry County.

Led by Community Support Director (CSD) Shelly Lackey and David Couch, CEO of Mt. Aloysius, the Emerging Leaders Program currently has more than 30 active participants. In Level 6, the compassionate leadership level, participants include staff from PCBDD as well as individuals from other local organizations, including PCDJFS and Mt. Aloysius. The full program includes twelve levels (Level 1 through Level 12).

Participants build leadership skills step by step, developing confidence, communication abilities, and decision-making skills. Each level introduces more integrated leadership concepts so participants can learn to lead people, lead organizations, and eventually lead other leaders.
