Indian belladonna (atropa acuminata) is a belladonna species with yellow flowers and black berries native to the Himalayas and growing in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and NE India. It has historically been confused by westerners with yellow belladonna (atropa belladonna var. lutea) which also has yellow flowers but differs from Indian belladonna due to having yellow berries.

It is endangered in the wild but grown as a commercial medicinal crop due to producing higher amounts of scopolamine in the roots than atropa belladonna. Scopolamine is an important alkaloid used in medicine for surgeries, motion sickness, and gastrointestinal issues.

In regional traditional medicine, Indian belladonna is used as a sedative, to relieve asthma and Parkinson’s symptoms, as an antidote for poisonous fungi, and as a salve for joint, nerve, and menstrual pain.
