Yesterday, 5/21, our team participated in a reunification drill alongside Tyler County Schools, law enforcement, EMS, volunteers, and several amazing community partners.

Exercises like these are incredibly important in helping ensure students, staff, and families can be safely and efficiently reunited during an emergency situation. While we hope these plans never need to be used, preparation, communication, and teamwork make all the difference.

We are extremely thankful for the strong partnership we share with Tyler County Schools and proud to work alongside so many dedicated agencies and volunteers who care deeply about the safety of our community and school system.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this drill successful! 💙

Yesterday, the Wetzel Tyler Health Department, along with several community partners, participated in the Tyler County Schools’ Reunification Tabletop Exercise. The exercise focused on strengthening coordination, communication, and response efforts in the event of a school emergency requiring student reunification with families.

Tyler County Schools had been working diligently in preparation for the exercise by conducting staff training sessions with The I Love You Foundation and smaller-scale mini exercises designed to familiarize the recently formed “Reunification Taskforce” with reunification procedures and emergency response protocols.

A full scale exercise is scheduled for Thursday, May 21st involving students, staff and families.

The Wetzel Tyler Health Department’s Threat Preparedness Program recently provided hands-on training in CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed to Mrs. Jones’ 10th grade class. Students learned critical life-saving skills, including recognizing emergencies, performing high-quality CPR, controlling severe bleeding, and responding effectively in crisis situations.

This training helps equip young individuals with the confidence and knowledge to act quickly and potentially save lives in their homes, schools, and communities.

The Health Department remains committed to strengthening community preparedness through education and practical skill-building opportunities
