At Atman Yoga & BJJ, we apply the meditative power of movement to pursue balance and harmony between one's mind, body, and spirit. Hatha yoga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) share a common grounding in the uniquely transformative power of movement. Though they seem to come from worlds apart, yoga and BJJ offer unexpectedly complementary elements and techniques beneficial to the development of each practice. Combined they are a potent means of refining one's self physically and metaphysically. Atman Yoga & BJJ is a safe space for everybody and every body! We welcome clients of all backgrounds and from all walks of life, wherever they are in their fitness journey. Our sessions are intensive full-body workouts that offer significant health benefits. We will encourage you to find comfort in the uncomfortable. Atman offers an array of hatha yoga classes, including the Bikram-inspired Hot 26, Vinyasa flow, restorative yoga, Nidra, and nonheated classes, as well as Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu for adults and children. Additional meditation and martial arts classes are forthcoming. Atman Yoga & BJJ is owned and operated by Gerard Ridings, a Yoga Alliance-certified Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT500) and black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu trained by the legendary Jamie Cruz in the Gracie school of BJJ. He is currently studying for certification in yoga therapy at the Prema Yoga Institute. Atman Yoga & BJJ is located at 1035 River Road in the plaza across from the U.S. Park and/or enter from Richmond Ave., to the rear of the plaza.

Patanjali described the physical practice of yoga in Sanskrit as “Sthira Sukham Asanam.” Loosely defined, we should strive to practice yoga with strength and in a relaxed manner. Sthira translates as strong, steady, and stable. Sukha means comfortable, happy, and relaxed. Asanam refers to the physical practice of yoga.
