Easing into this New Year with rest, recovery and quiet. We’re still in the year of the Wood Snake 🐍 until February 17, so tending to remaining shedding and releasing what we don’t want to carry forward. We will also need energy to embrace the Fire 🔥 Horse and take sacred action when the time comes. Release, recharge, restore. We have some powerful days coming up for noting and writing down goals to let them begin percolating as we shift into January Capricorn ♑️ season.

The holidays can be beautiful and brutal, magical and depressing, depending…the holidays can be times of festivities and cheer, loneliness and heartbreak. And you can “love it and hate it at the same time.”

We live in duality. It all can be real and true depending on the moment.

We are here to be fully human and our feelings and experiences are valid, especially in these surreal times. 🙏🏻❤️🎄❄️✨

From President Obama: “Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele. Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”

A theme I’ve been picking up on recently, has been about the topic of nature spirits or the Fae needing crystals, energy, or warmth from humans to give them vitality, or that nature spirits here in the west have been dormant and need humans to help revitalize them.

That has not been my personal experience, and what I’ve learned over the years of studying with many indigenous elders is that making offerings, such as to***co, or some other treats, or so that we can build, or rebuild respectful, and humble relationships with nature spirits, and places in nature. It’s more for us than it is for them.

Humans have done a lot to destroy the natural world, and have distanced ourselves, and separated ourselves from our nature relatives.

They don’t need us to give them energy for them to communicate. They may just choose not to communicate with us because of our history.

The idea that humans need to give nature spirits, something for them to be vital, or to be able to communicate, comes from our colonizer heritage.

However, taking the time, to build respectful relationships, with spirits of nature, trees, plants, mountains, lakes, rivers can be extremely rewarding when approached with humility and respect. 🌿💦🌲

On this day of Gratitude, I wanted to especially thank all my clients, students, colleagues and friends for your ongoing support throughout the years. I appreciate your trust, time and energy that you put into inviting me to walk with you on your healing and spiritual journeys. It is my greatest honor and one of my greatest joys to do the work that my soul came onto this planet to do, and without you, that would not be possible.

This is a challenging time for many, though there is hope that we are turning a corner for brighter and kinder days, just like with the upcoming Solstice where the light returns. This time of year invites more quiet and introspection if we can find it or create it. Sometimes noticing the smallest gifts of the day can brighten our spirits.

While the traditional meaning of this day has been greatly altered to ignore the great harm to the original peoples of these lands, we can own and honor the truth and move forward to do things differently. In these heavier times we may have to submerge ourselves in the mud, shed the old patterns like in the Tower card of the tarot, and utilize the energy of the Year of the Snake, so that we can emerge less burdened and ready to take sacred and inspired action in the coming year for each other, our communities and the planet.

It’s important to me as a Shamanic practitioner to honor sacred reciprocity and to give back, especially for the Earth who gives to us each day, those in need in various difficult situations and my indigenous teachers who have sacrificed so much, and without your support that would not be possible at all in the same way.

Thanks to all of you we have been continuing this year with our monthly donations to:
The Heartwalk Foundation
Amazon Watch
American Forests
World Central Kitchen
Loaves & Fishes

In Gratitude and Thanksgiving,
Deana

I also wanted to share this poem:

Blessed Be The Gifts You Never Notice

“Blessed be the gifts you never notice,

your health, eyes to behold the world,

thoughts to countenance the unknown,

memory to harvest vanished days,

your heart to feel the world’s waves,

your breath to breathe the nourishment

of distance made intimate by earth.”
