This is one instance where what happens in Vegas does NOT stay in Vegas!

Tulane Surgery showed up strong at the Symposium on Advanced Wound Care in Las Vegas earlier this month with seven posters presented!

Pictured: Tulane medical students Jessica Reid and Cole Feuquay, Department of Surgery research student James Pai, and our Division Chief of Plastic Surgery Dr. Abigail Chaffin.

Also featured on posters: Tulane medical student Seanna Yang and surgical resident Dr. Joshua Dickerson.

We’re so proud of our students and residents for representing Tulane Surgery once again on the national stage! 💚💙

On a Friday not so long ago, we celebrated something truly special... 🎓💚

Our third IMPRESS cohort wrapped up an incredible summer filled with hands-on training, real-world mentorship, and a tremendous amount of growth.

These students came from all over—Louisiana, D.C., California, and beyond—and jumped into everything from robotic surgery simulations to MCAT prep and patient-centered learning.

They asked great questions, showed up with purpose, and left with new skills, mentors, and momentum. We’re so proud of this group—and we can’t wait to see where they go from here.

Our Honors Surgery program is a selective four-week course for 4th-year medical students who have excelled in their core surgery rotations and shown a strong interest in a surgical career.

Through faculty-led lectures, simulation training, hands-on labs, and focused mentorship, the program is designed to prepare these students to excel as interns when they begin residency.

This week, our Honors Surgery students had the opportunity to join Dr. Anil Paramesh and Dr. Bernard Jaffe, together with many others, in the OR. We are grateful for their mentorship—and for the countless colleagues in and beyond Tulane Surgery who make this experience possible.

Join us in congratulating Dr. Kavin Sugumar, one of our PGY5 General Surgery Residents, on his first-author publication in JAMA Network Open! His groundbreaking study—featured this week in Inside Tulane Med and Tulane Today—challenges the use of a key FDA-approved metric in re**al cancer drug trials.

A meta-analysis of nearly 12,000 patients found that pathologic complete response (pCR) doesn’t reliably predict long-term survival, raising important questions about how cancer drugs are evaluated and approved.

We’re proud to see Tulane Surgery residents at the forefront of national research conversations.
