Join us in congratulating Dr. Kavin Sugumar, one of our PGY5 General Surgery Residents, on his first-author publication in JAMA Network Open! His groundbreaking study—featured this week in Inside Tulane Med and Tulane Today—challenges the use of a key FDA-approved metric in re**al cancer drug trials.

A meta-analysis of nearly 12,000 patients found that pathologic complete response (pCR) doesn’t reliably predict long-term survival, raising important questions about how cancer drugs are evaluated and approved.

We’re proud to see Tulane Surgery residents at the forefront of national research conversations.

From LA to DC! ✈️ Our Bariatric team is at it again!

Members of our Tulane Bariatric team are in Washington, D.C. this week for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Annual Meeting.

Yesterday, during ASMBS Hill Day 2025, Tulane team members Dr. John Baker, Dr. Shauna Levy, and Nurse Practitioner Kelly Quinn joined our LCMC Health colleagues Dr. Michael Cook and Nurse Practitioner Toya Smith from UMC to advocate for an important cause.

Together, they met with the offices of Senator Bill Cassidy, Senator John Kennedy, Representative Troy Carter, and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise to champion improved access to obesity care and insurance coverage.

We’re proud to stand united for our patients, represent Louisiana, and contribute to the national conversation on obesity treatment. 💪 Grateful for the opportunity to champion better outcomes for all.
