CPESN NC was well represented by incredible pharmacists from our network in attendance at NCPA Annual 2025! We love any opportunity to see everyone in person and the chance to share ideas, collaborate, and celebrate the great things happening across pharmacies in North Carolina! Our staff got to present two posters highlighting some of the great work in different payer programs our pharmacies participated in over the last year.

Our next luminary to highlight is Tori Watkins!
đź’ˇ Tori is a clinical pharmacist at Sona Pharmacy + Clinic
💡 She has served our network for over a year as a luminary
💡Outside of pharmacy, Tori says “I have a 2 year old now so I spend a lot of my time chasing her around outside and enjoying the beautiful Asheville mountains! We also love the Asheville food & wine culture and it’s starting to thrive again after the hurricane! So visitors are definitely welcome!”
💡 Why do you think CPESN is important? “Pharmacy is an always changing world and it’s especially important for independent pharmacies to support each other through that change. CPESN provides the structure and opportunities to work together for the betterment of our own stores and more importantly patients across the state.”

Thank you so much for all you do for CPESN North Carolina, Tori!

We still have some luminaries to highlight and next up is Amie Howe!
đź’ˇ Amie is the a Clinical Pharmacist and the Manager Moose Pharmacy Mount Pleasant and the Moose Pharmacy PGY1 Residency Site Coordinator
💡 She is in her second year of serving our network as a luminary
💡Outside of pharmacy, Amie says “ I absolutely love outdoors and being in nature. A good hike with my favorite people is my perfect pastime.“
💡 Why did you choose to be a luminary? “CPESN is so important for thousands of reasons but most important is CPESN is dedicated to improving patient care which leads to better outcomes for patients along with a commitment to practice advancement and transformation.
đź’ˇ Advice/encouragement you have for other pharmacists in the network:
“Invest in and believe in your staff and empower your team to help you meet goals. Leading your team to practice at the top of their position/license will pay off exponentially.
“Alone we do so little; together we can do so much” ~Helen Keller”

We truly appreciate your dedication to CPESN North Carolina, Amie!

Our next Luminary highlight is Anna Baird!
đź’ˇ Anna is the Director of Clinical Operations for Realo Drugs
💡 She has served our network as a luminary for 2 years
đź’ˇOutside of pharmacy, Anna enjoys spending time with her family!
💡 Why did I choose to be a luminary? “I wanted to contribute to the advancement of pharmacy practice in North Carolina. I think CPESN is so important to show payers that we serve our communities by more than dispensing medications. We can provide patient education, we do health risk screenings, and we are so much more than someone behind a counter. It’s vitally important for us as independents to join together to show in a collective manner what we’re able to do.”

We truly appreciate you serving our network, Anna!

Next Luminary highlight is Ashley Abode!
đź’ˇ Ashley is the Clinical Service Coordinator for Realo Drugs
💡 She has served as a luminary for our network for 2 years
💡 Why did you choose to be a luminary? “We’ve built a lot of connections through the work we do at Realo.  I saw opportunities for other pharmacies across our state to be involved and wanted to have an active voice in the contracts and partnerships we were building through CPESN. CPESN is important to me because it allows us to better leverage the work we do within independent pharmacy. As a stand alone pharmacy group we are unable to negotiate with payers or partners on our own and doing this as a group, under a clinically integrated network, allows for more opportunities.”

Thank you for all you do for our network, Ashley!

Next up, we have Lori Altman!
đź’ˇ Lori and her husband are the owners of Bayboro Pharmacy and Wellness Center, the longest running independent pharmacy in Pamlico County!
đź’ˇ Lori has been a luminary for CPESN-NC for 8 years.
💡Outside of pharmacy: “I have three amazing children and enjoy family time, church, hiking, paddle boarding, traveling, and time spent on the river in gorgeous eastern NC.”
💡Why do you choose to serve as a luminary for our network? “I chose to be a luminary because I believe in rural independent pharmacy and our profound impact on the lives in our community. I heard someone say, “nothing for us, without us”. CPESN is “us” and we can use our collective voices to ensure and steer our future as independent, community pharmacists!”

Thank you for serving our network, Lori!

Our next Luminary feature is Thomas McDowell!
💡Thomas is the owner of McDowell’s Pharmacy and Rocky Mount Medical Park Pharmacy
đź’ˇThomas has served CPESN NC for 4 years as a luminary
đź’ˇOutside of pharmacy Thomas loves going to football and basketball games in Chapel Hill with his family. He is a 4th generation Tar Heel!! He also enjoy fishing when he gets a chance.
💡Why CPESN?: “The pharmacy industry is rapidly evolving, and I strongly believe that getting paid for enhanced services is crucial to our survival along with PBM reform and CPESN is at the forefront of this movement. CPESN is dedicated to bringing independent pharmacies together as a group to strengthen our ability to provide services locally in collaboration with payers, partners, and communities. We need all independent pharmacies at the table as we navigate this changing healthcare landscape.”

Thank you for serving our network, Thomas! ✨

Next up, we have Elizabeth Locklear!
đź’ˇElizabeth is the Owner and Pharmacy Manager of Rocky Point Pavilion Pharmacy
đź’ˇElizabeth has served our network as a luminary for one year
💡Outside of pharmacy Elizabeth and her family enjoy all things related to living in a coastal community. “Our favorite times to enjoy the beach are in the spring and fall, when it feels like we have the whole beach to ourselves!  We also enjoy cheering on our local college basketball team at UNCW.  Go Seahawks!”
💡Why CPESN?: “CPESN has allowed my pharmacy to participate in various payor opportunities that have benefited my community and provided new sources of revenue for the pharmacy.  Being a member of CPESN has also provided me with opportunities to network with industry leaders. I’ve learned so much from my peers about new opportunities in pharmacy and how they can benefit our community.”

Thank you for serving our network, Elizabeth!

Next Luminary is our Lead Luminary, Greg Vassie!
đź’ˇGreg is a 3rd-generation pharmacist and owns a pharmacy, medspa, urgent care, and care management software company.
đź’ˇHe has been a luminary for 8 years
💡Outside of pharmacy, Greg enjoys golf, rucking, jiu jitsu, and skiing with family. He is also a huge Buffett/Munger guy!
💡Why he chooses to serve as a luminary: “I have been a part of CPESN since the CMMI days. I believe we are all stronger together when you negotiate with payers but our unfair advantage is we develop our
services independently according to what our community needs.  My drive is for my children to see community pharmacy as a viable profession and be the 4th generation of my family of pharmacists.”

Thanks for all you do, Greg!
