Hosted by the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at LSU Health New Orleans, we are honored to welcome James P. Higgins, MD as our distinguished guest lecturer. Dr. Higgins served as Dr. Tuggle’s mentor during his fellowship at Curtis and continued to support him during his early years as an attending.

💜 Kathryn DiLosa, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery (Vascular Surgery) - Dr. DiLosa earned her medical degree and Master of Public Health from LSU Health Sciences Center and recently completed both clinical and postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, Davis Medical Center.

💛 Anne Kelly Rhudy, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery (Vascular Surgery) - Dr. Rhudy earned her medical degree and Master of Public Health from Tulane University. She completed her general surgery residency at LSU Health Sciences Center and recently concluded a fellowship in vascular surgery at Baylor University Medical Center.

💜 Alexis Scheuermann, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery (Trauma/Critical Care Surgery) - Dr. Scheuermann completed her medical degree and general surgery residency at LSU Health Sciences Center and recently finished a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

We invite you to join us for the inaugural Ty Tuggle, MD Lectureship in Hand Surgery on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Hosted by the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at LSU Health New Orleans, we are honored to welcome James P. Higgins, MD as our distinguished guest lecturer.

Dr. Higgins was Dr. Tuggle's mentor and taught him many things about hand surgery and life.

Dr. Higgins serves as the fourth chief in the 70+ year history of the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland. As Chief, Dr. Higgins directs the Curtis National Hand Center’s civilian hand fellowship, but also serves as the site director of the joint Walter Reed/Curtis Hand military fellowship that has provided hand surgery training for the US Army hand surgeons since the 1960s.

Dr. Higgins is world renowned for his expertise in complex bony reconstruction with the medial femoral condyle (MFC) and medial femoral trochlear (MFT) free flaps. His clinical and research interests include vascularized bone/cartilage reconstruction of extremity nonunions, functioning muscle reconstruction of the upper limb, toe transfer digital reconstruction, complex reconstruction of upper extremity trauma and vaso-occlusive disease of the hand.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Wudel to our LSU Health New Orleans Department of Surgery! Dr. Wudel was most recently the Western Regional Director for Thoracic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and will lead our Thoracic Surgery Division as division chief.

Dr. Wudel has performed over 8,000 operations, including more than 2,000 robotic procedures. He is a key national opinion leader and pacesetter in minimally invasive thoracic surgery. We are excited to have him join our team!

The Department of Surgery at Health New Orleans , School of Medicine, is proud to announce that Jonathan E. Schoen, MD MPH FACS FABA has been named the new Burn Medical Director of the Burn Center at University Medical Center New Orleans .

Dr. Schoen joined the LSUHSC-NO Department of Surgery faculty in 2019 and has been a compassionate leader dedicated to serving our community of patients and clinical professionals.
