Dr. Ulrich recently served on a panel for the 27th Annual Empowerment Conference!

She spoke on family building and planning options for those living with HIV. It’s crucial to inform individuals about their options, ensuring everyone has access to the care they deserve.

Thank you Dr. Ulrich for continuing to be at the forefront of these important conversations.

Behind every successful IVF journey, there's an expert embryologist. Happy World Embryologist Day to our Audubon Fertility Lab staff!

Embryologists play a crucial role in the IVF process. They:

Handle and fertilize eggs in the lab.
Cultivate embryos in optimal conditions.
Assess embryo quality to select the best candidates for transfer.

Their dedication ensures that each step of the fertility treatment process is handled with precision and care, offering patients the best chance for success.

Meet our 2024 IVF Grant Winner Yondra from southeast Louisiana! We gifted her Audubon Fertility swag for her first appointment.

Her family has been on their fertility journey since 2018. Having an unsuccessful IUI procedure and natural conception, she is ready to try IVF.

After six years of trying to start a family, the cost of fertility care can add up. This grant will provide essential support, bringing her one step closer to her dream of having her rainbow baby 🌈

“With hurricane season now upon us, it is understandable that patients have concerns about the safety of their frozen eggs, s***m, or embryos in our IVF Lab. We understand the anxiety patients feel about placing their precious reproductive tissue in our trust, and we want to assure you that we take the responsibility of safeguarding your tissue very seriously.

As part of the Inception network, Audubon Fertility Lab shares best practices for laboratory safety and security with other leading IVF labs in the country. Our lab is also subject to regular and surprise inspections by CAP, CLIA, and the FDA, which regularly review our policies and procedures.

The most common event that we encounter during hurricane season is a power outage. It is important to note that frozen eggs, s***m and embryos are not stored in freezers that require electricity. These tissues are stored in large insulated tanks surrounded by liquid nitrogen so that they are maintained at a temperature of -321°F.

Liquid nitrogen does evaporate, but this occurs so slowly that it would take several weeks for the level to fall below the level that specimens are stored when liquid nitrogen is not added. We fill up the tanks frequently and regularly as a standard and always fill them immediately ahead of any hurricanes anticipated to affect our area.

Eggs or embryos in culture are stored in incubators that do require electricity. The Audubon Fertility Lab is connected to a back-up generator so that if or when power goes out, these tissues are not affected.

The staff at Audubon Fertility are in constant communication during hurricane season to ensure we are ready to implement the most appropriate emergency plan if needed. There is no “one size fits all” plan and many factors are considered including the severity and direction of the hurricane and anticipated loss of services after landfall.

The emergency plan will also be different for each individual patient that is cycling based on several factors. We will be in communication with every patient during these events to make sure we are making a plan that each patient is comfortable with.”

Monday, Dr. Ulrich alongside Representative Paula Davis and lawyer Katie Bliss had the honor of speaking on behalf of Louisiana fertility specialists in favor of HB 833.

The bill made it out of the House Committee on Civil Law and Procedure and will be moving to the House floor next week!

This bill will increase the protection for IVF doctors, clinics, our staff, and most importantly our patients.

We continue to stand in support of protection and access to IVF.
