A huge thank you to C.T. Janet Elementary for going gold with us for Childhood Cancer and Sickle Cell Awareness Month!

This past September, students, teachers, and staff wore gold and donated to support kids fighting big battles, raising an extraordinary $666.50 for the Manning Family Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders for kids like Cam, a bright and brave 5th grader at C.T. Janet that receives treatment here at Children's.

We’re so grateful to the entire C.T. Janet community for showing what it means to come together for kids and families in need. 💛

Today is World Cerebral Palsy Day, a day to raise awareness about cerebral palsy and celebrate the lives and achievements of everyone living with the condition. Cerebral palsy occurs when there's abnormal development of or damage to areas of the brain that control motor function.

At Manning Family Children's, our Cerebral Palsy Clinic uses a multidisciplinary team approach to address the unique needs of children with cerebral palsy, the most common movement disorder in children. Providers from the Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Orthopedics Departments, as well physical and occupational therapists, collaborate to assess the child’s unique needs and to develop a comprehensive, personalized care plan. “Yeah, I have lupus, but I’m still going to do everything I love to do.”

Meet Claudia Arguelles, clarinetist, state-champion band member,
freshman Louisiana State University Tiger, and one incredibly strong young woman! For two years, Claudia thought she was just dealing with cold fingers from stress… until her symptoms got worse.

After a long road of uncertainty, Claudia found answers with Dr. Anita Dhanrajani and the Manning Family Children’s Rheumatology team. Thanks to their compassion, quick action, and personalized care, Claudia was finally diagnosed with lupus and started treatment that’s helping her stay strong and keep marching forward.

Now, she’s off to college to study criminology — and she's even auditioning for the Golden Band from Tigerland! 🐅

We’re so proud to be part of Claudia’s journey. Read more at https://bit.ly/46KLeWk.

We are so grateful for the Miracle Children's Foundation and Raising Cane's, who stopped by today to gift iPads and some ONE LOVE goodies to patients battling cancer and blood disorders here at Manning Family Children’s! But that’s not all—our patients were surprised with a special visit from Coach O, who delivered a special pep talk to each of our strongest warriors (and some of our nurses, too 🥰)!

Thank you so much to Bryce, the Miracle Children's Foundation, Raising Cane's, and Ed Orgeron for brightening the day and spreading joy for our kids!

A year ago today, 5-year-old Micheal Butler woke up in the middle of the night to a trailer fire, but he didn’t hesitate. Guided by faith and courage, he ran through smoke and flames to wake his parents and save his family. Just minutes later, their home in rural Jonesville, LA., was gone.

Micheal suffered serious burns in the fire, but he found healing at the Burn Center at Manning Family Children's in New Orleans. From the moment he arrived, Micheal’s care team, led by plastic surgeon Jennifer Lavie, MD, treated him with skill, compassion, and respect. Over the course of four surgeries, Micheal’s burns healed better than anyone expected—thanks in part to the expertise of the surgical team and the loving care of nurses like Jordyn Poree, who became one of his favorites.

“They took care of our hero,” said Micheal’s father, Trenten. “Dr. Lavie answered our questions, kept us informed, and helped us every step of the way. We’d recommend her and this hospital to anyone.”

Today, Micheal is back to doing what he loves: fishing, playing baseball and reminding his family to say their prayers. His scars are healing and his smile is back. His healing journey will continue with the care of the Children’s team by his side.

Paisley is 11 years old with a love for painting, playing piano, and keeping up with friends online. For most of her life, though, sickle cell disease meant hospital stays, blood transfusions, and pain crises that often kept her from just being a kid.

Earlier this year, that changed. After years of managing the disease, Paisley became a candidate for a bone marrow transplant at Manning Family Children’s. Today, she’s walking again, recovering at home, and most importantly—she’s pain free.

Her mom, Dynisha, says the care team made all the difference: “Anything we needed, the team was there. The physicians were always available, and I felt safe and secure as a parent.”

On this last day of Sickle Cell Awareness Month, we’re celebrating Paisley’s strength and every family impacted by this disease. Learn more about Paisley's journey at the link in our bio!

Meet June, one of our precious cancer warriors. What started as swollen bumps at only two-years-old turned into a life-changing diagnosis—Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. From the moment her family arrived at Manning Family Children’s, June was surrounded by a team that provided not just expert care, but also strength, comfort, and hope.

“Dr. Farge has been so much more than just June’s oncologist. He’s been our guide through the darkest moments,” Taylor, June's mom, said. “He was the one who first diagnosed her and built the roadmap for every step of her treatment, from the first round of chemo to the ones still to come. What has meant the most is how he’s never once rushed us. He sits with us for as long as we need, answering every question, calming every fear, and reminding us we’re not in this alone. His compassion and steady presence have given our family hope and strength when we needed it most.”

Her journey is far from over, but June continues to face treatment with her trademark attitude, backed by a care team at Manning Family Children’s that cheers her on every step of the way.
