The truth is, ✨anyone✨ can experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. Fun right?!😅
✍️But here’s who we know are the most at risk for PMADs: those with a personal or familial history of depression or anxiety, those with low social supports or are single parenting, and those who have experienced pregnancy or birth complications in the past.
Okay PAUSE. If you just read that and you’re like “oh sh*t that’s me,” don’t panic! It doesn’t necessarily mean you will develop PMADs, just that you’re at an increased risk than say, someone who doesn’t fit that criteria🫶🏼
💡If you take anything away from this, we hope it’s that counseling during pregnancy GREATLY reduces mood and anxiety disorders postpartum. It also improves birth outcomes (hello, huge!), supports a healthy relationship with partner, and connects you with much needed PP resources and planning.
