Comment EXPECTING and I'll send you my pregnancy safe products for your everyday routine if you're a mama-to-be. 🥰🤝

I recommend avoiding these essential oils since most of them can be uterine contraction stimulants: Clary sage, sage, cinnamon bark, thyme, oregano, wintergreen, camphor, pennyroyal, basil (high in estragole), aniseed, fennel, tarragon, juniper berry, mugwort, wormwood, rue.

😊 In case your mom didn't teach you, I will...

✅ Clean towel for your face everyday
❌ Do NOT use your body towel on your face

Understood??

Comment PRODUCT if you'd want the clear that melasma mustache 🥸

Melasma is hormonally driven and can be stubborn, but sun protection is EVERYTHING
✅ SPF 50+ (tinted if possible)
✅ Reapply consistently
✅ Hats... EVEN in the car!!!
And remember consistency is key 🔑

Beef tallow on your face? My thoughts are... let's leave that one on the grill (for now).

It's not formulated in a safe, stable way for skin and if you're acne prone or oily it's basically an invitation for breakouts... so do yourself a favor and keep it AWAY from your face 🙅‍♀️

Questions on this? Have you tried the beef tallow trend? 👀

Postpartum mamas this one's for you! My go to recs for stretch marks:
✅ Tretinoin
✅ Lasers
✅ Microneedling
But the treatment depends on if you're still breastfeeding or nursing! And obviously you can't do any of these things while you are pregnant.

Follow up questions? Ask away ⬇️

Cysts are NOT your average pimple and NO you can't just "spot treat" them 🥲

Those deep, firm bumps form under the skin and usually need more than just a lil DIY fix
✅ DON'T pop them (I'M BEGGING YOU)
✅ Use a warm compress and OTC hydrocortisone to calm inflammation
✅ If it's painful, keeps growing, or coming back make an appointment with your derm for a steroid injection or removal. If they're infected, they need to be drained by a health professional.

Treat them gently and know when to call in the pros. Any questions? ⬇️

Postpartum hair loss? Let's TALK 📣

It's common, temporary, and totally normal, even if it feels scary! Focus on nutrition, gentle topicals, certain supplements, and stress management (as much as possible). If you're not breastfeeding, there are also very effective prescription oral medicines if needed. To all my postpartum mamas out there, I went through this too so just know that you're not alone and your body is recovering!

Not your everyday doctor

Mamina Turegano, MD, is a triple board-certified dermatologist, internist, and dermatopathologist. She graduated summa cm laude from Centenary College where she studied neuroscience and piano performance, and received her medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She then completed a five-year double residency program in internal medicine and dermatology and served as chief resident at Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. After working in private practice dermatology in the metro D.C. area, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a fellowship in dermatopathology at UCLA. She’s happy to return home to New Orleans.

Dr. Turegano has a special interest in evaluating how nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, and other environmental factors can play a significant role in inflammation, aging, and cancer. She enjoys incorporating holistic practices in her patients who deal with anything ranging from acne to warts. Given her background in internal medicine, she also has an interest in complex medical dermatology, including autoimmune skin diseases and psoriasis. In addition to practicing dermatology, Dr. Turegano is serving as the dermatopathologist for Sanova Dermatology and is a volunteer instructor at Tulane University in the department of dermatology.

Dr. Turegano has published articles in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Pediatric Dermatology, Journal of the American Medical Association – Dermatology, and Journal of Cutaneous Pathology. She has received multiple awards for her presentations at international dermatopathology meetings and is also a recipient of the American Society of Dermatopathology Mentorship Award.

In her spare time, Dr. Turegano likes to explore what makes her feel present. She enjoys dancing (hip hop mostly), rollerblading, ice skating, tending to her vinyl records (or their Spotify equivalents), playing piano (mostly classical), watching sunsets, hiking, and hanging with her family.
