Disability Rights Louisiana aims to foster a civil and productive social media community. As early voting for the October 11th Open Primary Elections in Orleans begins on September 27th, Disability Rights Louisiana is asking candidates running for City Council about their ideas, views, and policies regarding people with disabilities – who make up over one-third of our state’s population.

Our interview series is lead by DRLA Policy Analyst, Dr. Ashley Volion, who has been with our agency since 2015. Dr. Volion holds a Phd in Disability Studies from University of Illinois at Chicago. She had previously earned her undergraduate and master’s degrees from University of New Orleans, and has lived in New Orleans and LaPlace since moving from her hometown of Lafitte, LA in 2009.

As early voting for the October 11th Open Primary Elections in Orleans begins on September 27th, Disability Rights Louisiana is asking candidates to be the next Mayor of New Orleans about their ideas, views, and policies regarding people with disabilities – who make up over one-third of our state’s population.

As Disability Voting Rights Week continues, we would like to announce that next week (beginning on Monday, 9/15), we will share our exclusive interview series hosted by DRLA Policy Analyst, Dr. Ashley Volion, as she asks candidates running for the Mayor’s office and City Council seats in the New Orleans’ October 11th Primary elections about their ideas, views, and policies most relevant to people with disabilities. You don’t want to miss it!

Every year we ask the community for feedback to help us decide what issues our community needs our help with the most. In the past, this has led us to focus our work on helping people with disabilities with issues related to education, independence and decision-making power, their rights in institutions, employment, protection from financial abuse, voting, and the rights of older adults.
