👁️Lakefront Eyecare Case of the Week👁️

The first image shows what a healthy eye should look like — a stable tear film and properly functioning oil glands.

The images that follow are from a patient who presented with burning, redness, and pain.

What we found: 👀
 • First photo: Demodex (microscopic mites that live along the lash line) — visible as debris at the base of the lashes, a telltale sign of their presence
 • Second photo: “Soap-like” changes in the tear film (saponification), which occur when the oil layer is poor quality and breaks down, leading to irritation and instability 🧼
 • Third photo: Blocked oil glands with lid margin telangiectasia — findings consistent with ocular rosacea and severe Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD)

MGD is a major contributor to dry eye disease, and when combined with Demodex and ocular rosacea, it can significantly impact comfort and vision. 👁️

At Lakefront Eyecare, we specialize in identifying and treating dry eye at its source. A comprehensive exam or dry eye evaluation can help us create a personalized treatment plan for lasting relief.✨
