A beautiful, warm, inviting yoga studio and wellness center in the heart of mid-city New Orleans. FAQ + Common Questions

- We enter the studio through the back garden, walk along the bamboo pathway along the side of the house. The lot next to the studio is not ours.

- Secure bike parking available in the back of our building.

- Showers available for use after class.

- We have mats to borrow.



- Bring a water bottle, we do not sell bottled water. We have a filter where you can refill your bottle.

- We also have Las Brujas coffee for sale after morning classes.

Thursday November 14th Eddie Stern is having a memorial in NYC that will be livestreamed on ZOOM for the passing of R. Sharath Joic. Please read Eddie’s message for more information ⬇️

Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news of the passing of R. Sharath Jois. He passed away on Monday, November 11th, surrounded by nature, while hiking with students and friends in Virginia.

Sharath’s life was one of complete devotion to the spread of Yoga, to his family, and to his students. He will be deeply missed.

Please join Richard Freeman, Mary Taylor, Barbara Verocchi, Kristin Leigh, John Campbell, Michael Guiou, Maria Rubinate, Jocelyne, me, and others, on Thursday, November 14th, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm to remember, grieve, and memorialize his life and teachings.

Savasana, or Co**se Pose, is typically the last pose we take in a yoga class. Although says this isn’t his favorite pose, it is one in which he can achieve a state of true rest and ease. A state that isn’t always easy to find throughout the day or at the beginning of class. Many people sum up Savasana as the “easiest” pose, with cheeky T-shirts that say “I’m just here for savasana.” However, we often forget that Savasana IS a pose in its own right, and like all poses it has its challenges and a purpose. The challenge of Savasana is in letting go of bracing, effort, and control. To just be present. Most people would agree that this is something much easier said than done. The purpose of this pose, as the name makes very clear, is to practice impermanence. Impermanence is something that we can not control, but is universally hard to accept. We can never control the outcome of things, only our actions and reactions. Savasana offers us the beautiful opportunity to practice letting go gracefully after every single practice.

"Breath, Align and Flow" with Adam Shlomi
**Starting Thursdays in September, 6pm**

Class Description:

Adam offers a dynamic yoga class that harmoniously blends mindfulness with precise movement. Class begins with breath work, guiding you into a meditative space creating a quiet mind and a deep connection to your breath. This foundation supports your transition into postures inspired by Ashtanga yoga. Adam emphasizes proper form, alignment and balance, encouraging you find stability in each pose.

You'll progress through flowing sequence that generates heat and energizes your body. Adam offers multiple modifications to ensure the practice suits your individual needs. Towards the end of class, you'll have the opportunity to dip your toes into inversions, before settling into a gentle Savasana for final relaxation. Expect to leave class feeling centered, strong, and refreshed.

About Adam:

Adam's yoga journey began with an ankle injury that led him to seek low-impact practices. He found healing in rehabilitative flow yoga that strengthens, stretches, and connects breath with movement. Adam completed his training at Anaturra Ashram, a heart-centered Ta**ra school with a trauma-informed, inclusive philosophy. His welcoming classes create a playful space to release tension and relax areas of pain or tightness. Adam specializes in guiding beginners and seniors to find empowering movements suited to their bodies and abilities. Experiencing the transformative power of yoga firsthand, Adam is passionate about sharing this practice with others, cherishing how students leave classes feeling rejuvenated and uplifted. Students can expect a nurturing environment to build strength, increase mobility, and cultivate mind-body awareness.

✔️Trash removal once a week
✔️Sweeping the front entrance, the stairs and the front porch once a week
✔️Tidying up the Bathrooms
✔️Refill Spray Bottles
✔️Restock Napkins

⭐️Requirements for Work Study
- Commitment minimum of six months
- Punctual and reliable performance of shifts
- Pro-active, positive, can-do attitude

Small things that help you appreciate yourself, your loved ones, and the world around you will add up to big changes in your mindset.

Pick a couple practices from each category. Write them down. Post them on your mirror so that you remind yourself each morning.

Schedule the activities in your calendar. Even if they take five minutes, this daily reminder will prompt your memory.

And don’t forget to inhale the sweet fragrance of the jasmine that is blooming right under your nose.

Rubén Tree is Subbing Sunday’s 11:15am “Balance Yoga -Sliding Scale”
A unique student-centered approach, taught at an open level. Balance classes include breath awareness, alignment and flow. The primary traditions our teachers study and borrow from are Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa, Hatha, and Kaivalyadham Yoga.
We believe that interweaving from a diverse pool of influences creates a stronger yoga offering for physical, emotional and cultural well being. Teachers are encouraged to develop their individual styles and to share their unique experiences and tricks with you. Every class at Balance is unique. Balance Yoga is always evolving as we do and varies from teacher to teacher. Unless noted, classes are appropriate for all levels of practitioners.

Can a new student attend an all levels class?
Don’t worry about being new! There’s no judgement at Balance Yoga, and we’re all here to support one another. You can set yourself up in the middle of the room so you can see those in front and behind you.
