A beautiful, warm, inviting yoga studio and wellness center in the heart of mid-city New Orleans. FAQ + Common Questions

- We enter the studio through the back garden, walk along the bamboo pathway along the side of the house. The lot next to the studio is not ours.

- Secure bike parking available in the back of our building.

- Showers available for use after class.

- We have mats to borrow.

- Bring a water bottle, we do not sell bottled water. We have a filter where you can refill your bottle.

- We also have Las Brujas coffee for sale after morning classes.

An old favorite at a new time:
Strength & Flexibility with .rolfing
Now Tuesdays at 6pm!

Class Description:
Build the strength and flexibility needed for more challenging postures with these yoga drills. We’ll warm up with a few sun salutations, feel the burn in targeted areas with strength focused postures, and hold stretches longer for deeper flexibility. Boat pose, chaturanga, dolphin pose here we come! Be prepared to sweat. We’ll be revisiting a similar sequence for a few weeks at a time so we can begin to see change and mastery before moving on to a new set of challenging postures and yoga drills.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” said Martin Luther King. “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

In yogic philosophy we are separate entities connected in the universal spirit that lives in all of us. We cannot stand by and watch what's happening to fellow human beings in our country. No one should live in fear. No one should be afraid of being gunned down on the street. We all deserve the right to live in freedom.

As an act of solidarity with calls for a nationwide general strike, all Balance classes will be offered FREE OF CHARGE this Friday, 1/30.

We are choosing to stay open so that anyone who needs care, grounding, and support has access to it.

Our studio is committed to dignity, safety, and belonging for all. We stand with our neighbors and students in opposing ICE. We join calls to end the unjust and violent systems of oppression harming our communities.  As MLK said so beautifully above "whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Care is not passive. Gathering, supporting one another, and sustaining our bodies and spirits are essential to collective resistance. We move together so we can continue to show up, speak out, and fight for a world rooted in justice and liberation for all beings. 🕊 ✊️ 🕉

We're beyond excited to welcome Tara Loftis to Balance!

✨️Ashtanga-Inspired Vinyasa Flow✨️
Thursdays at 6pm

Class Description:
All-levels vinyasa flow inspired by the variety and strength of Ashtanga Yoga. This challenging flow incorporates advanced poses with optional modifications and creative transitions. A class that offers a playful space to explore and enjoy the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of the yoga practice while making it your own. You can expect to move and be pushed outside your comfort zone, as you build on the fundamentals of yoga and lose yourself in longer flows set to an intentional playlist.  The perfect balance of challenge and flow to tone the body and ground the mind.

About Tara:
Tara Loftis is a yoga teacher, a certified hypnotherapist, and a Reiki healer. Her yoga education includes certifications in Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow from Sampoorna Yoga School (in India), Restorative Ta**ra from Shri Kali Ashram (in India), and Hatha Yoga + Kirtan from Wild Lotus (in New Orleans). Her classes are tailored to all levels, so expect some spice, but also the space to explore on your own whatever it is your body needs. Her flows and music playlists are a special craft – a blend of different poses and varieties, meant to keep you on your toes and keep things fun and light. Her teaching is imbued with specific alignment cues and knowledge that she’s collected from over a decade of teaching experience and practice. But many say that the best part of her classes is the cool lavender towel she places over your eyes in savasana.

When she isn’t facilitating healing sessions or yoga classes, Tara can be found closing real estate deals, managing her family’s real estate business (Reese & Co), traveling, attending festivals, exploring the world of plant medicine, solving puzzles, dog-sitting, or spending time with her most precious and spoiled rescue dog, George 🐶

🤸🏽‍♀️ Mysore is back at Balance!! 🎉

We are over the moon to welcome Giselle del Castillo to the studio! Giselle will be leading morning Mysore every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:30am 🌞

Giselle is an Ashtanga focused instructor whose teaching is rooted in disciplined practice, breath, and mindful movement. Originally from Panama and based in New Orleans since 2009, she discovered yoga as a transformative path for connecting body, mind, and spirit. Giselle completed her 200- and 300-hour teacher trainings at the Ashtanga Yoga Room and continues her studies through SmartFlow’s 300-hour program. A devoted and consistent practitioner, Giselle brings Ashtanga’s steady, meditative approach into each class, supporting strength, focus, and balance one breath and one movement at a time. We can't wait to practice with her!

New Year’s Day Yin Yoga: Rest, Reflect, Renew Thursday, January 1; 12:00 - 1:15pm

Begin the New Year by slowing down, together. This 75-minute Yin Yoga class offers space to pause, breathe, and soften after a year that may have asked a lot of us. It’s an invitation to tend to what feels tired, tender, or worn down, while being held in a shared, supportive community space.
Through long-held, nourishing postures, we’ll work with the deep connective tissues, encourage circulation, and support the nervous system in settling and restoring. The practice will be slow, spacious, and accessible, with options and props offered to feel safe, supported, and at ease.
This gathering is both a practice of rest and a practice of community care. We’ll move gently together, sharing quiet presence and collective breath, and honoring the strength it takes to show up after a challenging year. Rather than focusing on resolutions, this class creates room to acknowledge what we’re carrying, release what no longer serves us, and support one another simply by practicing side by side.
Expect moments of stillness, reflection, and integration, leaving you feeling grounded, replenished, and connected as you step into the year ahead.
Donation only. All donations support Southeast Dignity Not Detention Coalition.
All levels welcome. Come as you are.

Q***r Slow-Down, Friday evenings 7:15-8:30pm

✨️With Embee Breedlove✨️

Join Embee for a sweet class that balances movement and rest.  We'll begin with gentle, accessible movement to release the stresses of the week, and then shift into restorative poses and a yoga nidra to get in the right mindset for a restful and fun weekend.  Total beginners are welcome.  This class intends to create a safer yoga space for the LGBTQIA+ community.

About Embee:
Embee wants every person to feel welcome in their classes.  That means providing modifications and varying levels of physical engagement for each asana offered, incorporating meditation and pranayama practices, and providing regular reminders that students should listen to the feedback from their bodies in each moment of the practice.  Embee has a passion for teaching yoga for people who, for one reason or another, have been told that they don't "belong" in yoga spaces.

Nervous System Reset (with Erin)
Saturday, October 18th • 12:15-2pm
*Pre-registration required*

We exist within systems meant to keep us exhausted, insecure, and disconnected from ourselves and each other. In this current climate, rest is resistance- we also show up better for our community and loved ones when we feel grounded and regulated. This rest-shop (opposite of workshop) is designed to create a space of safety and softness to allow you to disengage from the fight-flight-fawn response and reconnect with your embodied self.

The session will include a brief discussion about the nervous system and how we move between different states of regulation. We will explore simple vagus nerve toning techniques and balancing pranayama and discuss ways to integrate these practices into our daily routine.

We'll engage in some gentle movement before settling into a series of restorative poses. Erin will offer optional supportive adjustments and a curated soundscape to help ground your practice.

Open to all- no prior yoga experience required. Space is limited in order to provide individualized attention for all attendees.

Investment: $25 ($20 for Balance members)
