Last week Tulane Orthopaedics Athletic Trainer and SSA Coach Jason's Sports Medicine class did a hands on spine boarding session, after learning about cervical spine injuries. Hands-on spine boarding training teaches students how to
properly assess, stabilize, and safely transfer a patient with a suspected cervical spine injury.
Through real-time practice, they learn effective communication, coordinated team movement, and immobilization techniques. This experience builds confidence, improves decision-making under pressure, and reinforces the importance of maintaining spinal alignment to prevent further injury.
Students also learned how to safely remove football helmets and shoulder pads. A big thank you as well to Patrick Maloney from Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine for coming help teach and give valuable feedback.
