Covid-19 vaccine has arrived for our 5-11 year old patients!!! We will begin scheduling as of this morning. Our plan is as follows:
We will schedule our 5-11 yo patients for TWO β€œCovid shot only” visits, separated by three weeks. Available time slots will include before school, lunch hour, end of day, and Saturdays as needed. Once scheduled, you are encouraged to review, print, and complete the consent form found at www.halespediatrics.com. Please bring this information with you to your appointment. Following your child’s vaccine, please expect a fifteen minute period of observation.
Of note, in order to allow for efficient use of time, if you have questions or reservations about the vaccine, please contact us ahead of time for that discussion. Due to the unpredictable numbers of vaccines available, we will use our discretion as to whether the covid vaccine will be made available for routine well visits. If your child is sick or unable to attend a scheduled appointment time, please notify us 24 hours in advance. We will generate a waiting list for those β€œlast minute” remaining doses.
We were contacted by Children’s Hospital ( www.chnola.org/covid-19-vaccine ) who will be offering vaccines to the community as well. Local pharmacies and schools are also working hard to provide vaccines to this younger group of patients. As always, we are available for ongoing questions. Please bear with us as we adjust to this additional, most welcomed β€œundertaking”!
COVID-19 VACCINE UPDATE

As of yesterday, both the FDA and CDC have endorsed the emergency use of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old. We are in daily conversation with the Louisiana Department of Health and are expecting pediatric vaccine delivery in the next few days. Our goal is to make them available as soon as possible for our families. Vaccines will also be available through local hospitals, schools, and pharmacies. Please continue to check this site as this will be your best resource for daily updates. πŸ›

COVID-19 UPDATE REGARDING VACCINE ROLLOUT

We are eagerly awaiting the decision regarding the authorization for emergency use of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children, ages 5-11. As you are likely aware, the FDA and CDC will be meeting over the next two weeks to confirm safety and efficacy of the vaccine for this next age group. The vaccine rollout will likely proceed quickly, if approved.

Over the last several months, we have had numerous conversations with our parents regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. Many of our families are eager to vaccinate their children as soon as possible. Others have expressed uncertainty and need for more dialogue. We fully respect these differing perspectives and will continue to work diligently with our families to help make the best choices for their unique needs.

In general, we are very optimistic that the introduction of this vaccine to our younger patients will help to keep them safe and healthy. This will also allow for increased protection for our families and community as a whole. In addition, a return to some degree of normalcy for our school-aged children will surely be welcomed.

In terms of logistics, the Louisiana Department of Health is working to make vaccines available as soon as possible following their approval. We are currently in close contact with them, working with them to assure availability of vaccine for use at Hales Pediatrics. A familiar setting, especially for our younger patients, would certainly be preferable. Schools and local hospitals will also be included in the effort.

Clearly, this β€œrollout” is a work in progress. As we receive more information, we will keep you informed. Please continue to check this site for updates over the next few weeks. As always, we are available for any questions you may have.
