Many people have been moved to tears as Buddhist monks walk 2,300 miles across America to spread peace and compassion. Their 120-day journey, called the Walk for Peace, takes them from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C. Passersby often stop and watch quietly—not in sadness, but in awe and joy at the monks’ gentle presence and the kindness they share with complete strangers.
Among the gifts the monks have received along the way, flowers stand out the most. In nearly every city, people have offered sunflowers, roses, daisies, and orchids. The monks carefully place these flowers on their robes as they continue, carrying these simple tokens of goodwill mile after mile.
In a statement, the monks shared, “Every flower you give and place on our path silently tells us that the seeds of peace have bloomed in your heart. And seeing that light shine in you, that’s the most beautiful gift we could ever receive.”
