Joyous Juneteenth! This morning I woke up and saw that five years ago I stated this day would never be celebrated nationally. As a Black woman in America, who was raised with knowledge and pride of everything my people have suffered and accomplished, often in spite of, Black joy has always been important to me. It is the voice behind our fight for freedom, and the source of our enduring strength. It is the ultimate intention behind our dharma. When we seek enlightenment we are seeking the ultimate joy. And Every. Single. Person. on this planet deserves to feel that.
From a wellness perspective, joy is the purest source of health. My goal every session is for my client to leave a little more joyful, a little less stressed, and thus that much healthier. Honestly, my main goal is life is to find a way for as many people to feel joyful as possible, as much as possible. But doing so involves dismantling systems that are created to take joy, to take freedom, and to limit the opportunities we are alleged to have access to. Joy comes from everyone's life mattering, regardless of their skin color, who they choose to love, or what they choose to do with their bodies. Regardless of being suspected of crimes. Joy comes when we are free to be our authentic selves. Joy comes from justice, joy is peace.
Today I encourage you to find your joy. Do what makes your soul happy. Honor the ancestors who learned today that their hope for freedom was not futile. Remember to have hope that the change that is still needed will come. I never believed so many would celebrate this day, and that gives me hope that there will be more days to celebrate in the future. Let freedom, ring y'all. And let it ring joyously.
