6 weeks postpartum vs 5 months postpartum

I'm not doing anything extreme. I'm still trying to find routines that work for my new normal while keeping a baby alive & entertained 🤪

I try to eat clean, but I have the occasional treat. I try to drink lots of water, but some days I'm fueled by caffeine. I try to move my body daily, but some days things don't go as planned.

But this is a reminder that consistency over time pays off more than occasional perfection.

If you want a realistic example of fitness, you should follow & check back often.

I ran my first 5K 16 years ago. Since then I've run countless 5Ks, sone 10Ks, 2 half marathons, 2 Ragnar relays and hundreds of training runs. I've run in several states and other countries. I've been in 2 print magazines, 1 digital, and co-founded a run club . All because I didn't listen to 1 naysayer.

Ignore the people who tell you that you can't do something because it's "hard."

November was about finding my new normal as a mom. I've been working on finding new routines and new habits, because my old ways aren't compatible with my new reality.

Gone are 2 hour gym workouts at 5am. Gone are evenings spent creating and editing content. And gone are uninterrupted nights of sleep 🥱

BUT change doesn't mean we quit. Change means we pivot. We adjust. We figure it out. And for me, November was the beginning of that.

Here's to more growth & progression in December 🥂

I love a challenging, sweaty workout myself, but hear me out...

➡️ Consistent low impact workouts are better than inconsistent super challenging workouts.

➡️ Walking daily is going to give you better long-term results than 2-3 high intensity workouts per month.

So, if you are struggling to exercise consistently, try walking.

✨️ Bonus: You don't need a gym membership and you don't need a lot of expensive equipment.

Working out in the gym has been a habit of mine for 20 years. So transitioning to motherhood, new responsibilities & new time restrictions has been a challenge to say the least.

Social media shows us women bouncing back immediately and seemingly having more than the 24 hours the rest of us have in a day.

That hasn't been my story.

I've been walking more than running and I have yet to return to the gym, opting for at home workouts instead.

BUT I miss the gym. I miss training hard. So, I'm working on a plan that will allow me to return to some of those things.

You don't lack motivation. You lack systems. 👇🏽

Busy people aren't lazy, they just run on max capacity. If your fitness routine requires you to make extra decisions (find clothes, fill water, find keys,etc ) when you're already running on overload, you will skip it.

​So what can you do? Plan ahead.

👉🏽 Put everything you need (your gym clothes, water bottle, headphones, and keys) in one spot, right by the door.

👉🏽 ​With everything ready, all you have to do is grab everything and go

​👉🏽 This system reduces the mental energy of starting. It literally makes it easier to go than to skip.

​Stop depending on willpower. Build a routine that makes the right choice the easiest choice. ‼️

Motivation is great for starting, but Discipline is what gets long-term results.

​We all have those days when our energy is low and skipping the workout feels easier.

​That's where discipline comes in.

​Discipline is the promise you make to yourself to show up. It’s choosing your long-term goals over short-term comfort.

​Consistency, especially when no one is watching, is where real change happens. When motivation dips (and it will!) depend on your discipline. That's the secret to success.

When I began my fitness journey, my goal was to feel confident wearing just spandex shorts and a sports bra. The brand Spandex & Sports Bras is about women achieving their goals and living full, healthy lives.

Your goal may not be wearing spandex shorts and a sports bra. Your goal might be running a race, being able to be active with your children, managing your health, wearing a sexy outfit or any number of things. Whatever it is - Spandex & Sports Bras is a movement for you. Together, with other women, you can achieve your goals and feel healthy, confident and sexy!
