Happy Mother’s Day to all who hold the day. May your heart be full.

If today is hard, I am holding you.

Motherhood has the ability to make our hearts swell and bring us to our knees. Wherever you are in your journey of mothering or being mothered, I hope you are surrounded by love.

This cute little bunny hopes you had a beautiful spring weekend, however you celebrate.

🧡 It really is all going to come together and it won’t stay this hard.

The early postpartum days are so challenging. Heart swelling. So many parts of your brain working hard to learn new things. Your body physically changing… again. Recovering from birth. Muscle aches from the pacing… or sitting. Different smells and feelings. Big emotions. Wonderful aspirations. It’s a whirlwind.

Whether you just need a kind support through these big transitions, or help learning to feed your baby and make sense of it all, we are here to catch you and hold you through this time. You deserve to thrive with personalized care where you are most comfortable, in your home.

You’ll see your healthcare provider once a month during your pregnancy, until the last bit when you’ll see them once a week. Get the most out of your appointments, especially the early ones, by writing down questions in advance and thinking through possible answers and follow up questions. The more precise your question is, the higher quality answer it will demand. It’s never too early in your pregnancy to ask any question.

Maybe the best birth song ever written? 🎶

“Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap
It’s time to try defying gravity
I think I’ll try defying gravity
And you can’t pull me down”

Defying Gravity is one of the best hype songs ever...and it could be about birth, and it’s good advice.

When you are pregnant and preparing to bring your baby here, something more than just the presence of a baby has changed within you, and you are not the same.

Don’t play by anyone else’s rules. As the parent you have intuition and knowledge about what is best for you and your baby’s birth.
Trust those instincts. Leap toward the birth you need.

And YES, during your labor get up, move around and use gravity to pull your baby to you and into this world. Because no wizard (or careprovider) who is or was is ever gonna bring you down!

(and with a doula you can be UNLIMITED)

Did you know that breech babes come in seasons? We sure wish we knew why these wee babes decide to hang out in any position other than head down because then maybe we could talk them out of it! But we know if one baby is breech a bunch of them are. Crazy, huh?

Breech babies can present with feet first, bum first, legs crossed, and feet by ears. Any silly position that’s not head down!

If your baby is breech late in your pregnancy you can use acupuncture, moxibustion, the webster chiropractor technique, positional work with a doula or an ecv (external cephalic version) to encourage your babe to flip. Some healthcare providers are skilled in breech deliveries. If your kiddo flips, you’re just back to being pregnant and waiting on labor.

Did you know that 36% of first time parents are induced and 24% of all birthing people have induced labors. Your healthcare provider knows when they would like to induce your labor if spontaneous labor doesn’t happen first. Do you know when *you* feel the benefits of an induction out weigh the risks?

Did you know that if you choose to move forward with an induction you have some options about how that moves forward?

Let’s chat! It’s the old gi joe saying - “the more you know!”

Our Story

We believe every family deserves and benefits from having a birth and postpartum doula. Birth is normal life event and we honor every birthing person’s right to birth as they wish and is best for them. Postpartum is a time when families need support and care that is personal and tailored to them. You will remember your birth for the rest of your life. We want you to have a happy birth day and a happy postpartum. Nola Nesting, the first group of birth workers (doulas, childbirth educators, placenta encapsulators) working together in the New Orleans area, began in an effort to make birthing resources like doulas and childbirth classes more accessible and easier to find. By supporting one another we are able to support more families and have a greater impact on the culture of birth in our area. We have continued to grow over the years, but are a small business specializing in personal client care. Nola Nesting has been voted Best Doulas, Best Birth Class, and Best Support Group (in two categories) by Nola Family Magazine in 2017 and 2018.
