Trouble concentrating??
1) Are you getting enough sleep?
2) Are you stressed/anxious? How is your mental health?
3) How is your overall health? What medications are you taking?
Lifestyle tips to help you focus:
• Aim to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. A rested mind/body increases alertness.
• Get active. Physical activity reduces stress/anxiety. It increases blood flow to the prefrontal cortex increasing your ability to concentrate.
• A few minutes of daily meditation or deep breathing exercises relaxes the mind/ body, decreasing stress, and increasing attentiveness.
• ADHD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Depression? — These conditions are treatable. Talk to your psychiatrist about your options—medications and therapy. Be patient—you may need to try different doses, medications, and/or therapists to find what works best for you.
• Diabetes, Dementia, Thyroid Disorder, Concussion, Obesity? (to name a few)—Make sure that you are taking your medications appropriately. Dont miss doctor appointments. Check with your provider about medication side effects including OVER THE COUNTER medications.
• Healthy eating increases cognition. Eat fiber, protein, and healthy fats. (Refer to the healthy eating chart below.) Eating healthy gives you an energy boost and increases concentration. While a diet full of processed foods, simple sugars, and saturated fats gives you the —itis 🤣 and reduces your energy and concentration.
• Make sure to socialize with good friends/family. Isolation can increase depression/stress, and decrease cognition.
Productivity tips to help you focus:
* Make a to do list. Check off the things you get done. Too much to do? Check off a few things every day. Set daily/weekly goals.
* Don’t multitask. Complete one thing at a time.
* Block off a certain time each day to complete tasks.
* Turn off distractors, such as phone, TV, social media, etc.
* Take breaks often to prevent mental fatigue. Stretch, take a walk, enjoy a conversation, eat a healthy snack.
* Exercise your brain daily. Read books, try to learn another language, learn to play an instrument, etc.
* Be patient. The more you practice healthy habits the healthier you will become!
Now go be productive,
