Happy International Self-Compassion Day!

Today is a special reminder of the power of compassion—an essential force that connects us all, transcending barriers and fostering healing within ourselves and our relationships with others.

At Hands on Health, we often extend kindness and compassion to those around us, but let's not forget to turn that same generosity inward. Building a loving relationship with ourselves is just as vital as the connections we maintain with others.

Take a moment today to reflect and reconnect with yourself. Celebrate your strengths, acknowledge your successes, and practice kindness towards yourself for any challenges that remain.

For those looking to deepen their self-compassion journey, I highly recommend exploring the work of Kristin Neff, a pioneer in this field. She offers workshops and gatherings—both online and in person—designed to cultivate a community rooted in radical self-compassion. Check out her resources at (https://self-compassion.org/) and join us in this transformative practice!

Let’s embrace self-compassion today and every day! 💖

✨Join us tonight from 6–7:30 PM on Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81312870359)

This week, Lauren Gehman, LCSW will discuss how she integrates positive psychology with movement-based therapy to support clients managing chronic conditions like EDS. She plans to primarily focus on how you can use positive psychology theory and concepts to support a life of well being. This can feel both empowering and regulating for hypermobile or pain-sensitive bodies.

Our EDS circle offers a safe, nurturing space to connect, ask questions, and feel truly seen. It’s a place to share your journey, gather wisdom, and support one another with compassion and care. Together, we honor the healing power of community and the strength found in shared experience.

We’re grateful to share this virtual space with you and look forward to seeing you!

🧠✨ Fascia + Vagus Nerve = Neurofascial Healing

Your fascia isn’t just structural—it communicates. When it’s restricted, it distorts the messages your vagus nerve is trying to send for rest, healing, and balance.

💥 Chronic stress? Pain that won’t go away? This might be the missing link.

At Hands on Health, we blend myofascial release + vagus nerve activation to restore your body’s natural healing pathways.

🌀 Feel connected again—from the inside out.

Opening up about personal challenges can often feel daunting, even in the welcoming environment of a therapy office. Local mental health therapist, Lauren Gehman, LCSW, understands this struggle and has developed an innovative approach to break down communication barriers.

Through her RUN WALK TALK program, Lauren leverages the healing power of nature, encouraging patients to walk or run while discussing their experiences. This method fosters deeper connections and creates a safe, open space for dialogue.

Dr. Kelly is a highly trained manual physical therapist with decades of experience in myofascial release. Supporting patients through fascia work is one of the greatest joys of her practice.

This August, she’s thrilled to attend the 7th International Fascia Research Congress, right here in New Orleans—a global gathering of leading fascia researchers and clinicians.

This event helps deepen the connection between hands-on healing and cutting-edge science—just the way Dr. Kelly loves to serve. 🤍

Stay tuned as we explore how fascia and the vagus nerve work together in healing, regulation, and connection.

The human body is made up of beautifully complex systems—muscles, organs, nerves, bones—all designed to work in harmony.

But what holds it all together? What allows these parts to communicate and support one another?

Fascia.

This connective tissue surrounds and supports every nerve, muscle, bone, and organ. It’s a living, intelligent web with over 250 million nerve endings that help transmit information and maintain structure.

When fascia is healthy, the body moves and feels better. But stress, trauma, or injury can cause restriction—not just physically, but emotionally too. Because fascia connects to the brain and nervous system, imbalance can lead to pain, fatigue, or even emotional disconnection.

✨ You are more connected than you know.

Podcast Review Spotlight 💬

We’re always grateful for feedback from our listeners, but this one truly stood out.

Sharing helpful information is one thing—but sparking empathy for those living with complex health conditions is the heart of what we do. That’s the mission of The Mind-Body Connection: to make these conditions more understandable and approachable for everyone—whether you live with them or love someone who does.

By building awareness and compassion, we can create deeper connections and be better equipped to support one another.

Thank you for listening, sharing, and being part of this growing community. 💛

This week, we have the lovely Cate Herrera Bloom (MS, CCC-SLP, CLC) speaking about myofunctional therapy. Cate is a medical Speech-Language Pathologist and feeding therapist with over 15 years of extensive experience managing feeding and swallowing disorders. Cate plans to describe her gentle, body-aware approach that retrains the muscles of the tongue, jaw, and face to support optimal breathing, swallowing, and postural alignment. Especially helpful for those with EDS, this therapy can ease tension, reduce fatigue, support nervous system regulation, and improve sleep and oral function through mindful, functional movement.

Our EDS circle offers a safe, nurturing space to connect, ask questions, and feel truly seen. It’s a place to share your journey, gather wisdom, and support one another with compassion and care. Together, we honor the healing power of community and the strength found in shared experience.

The Vagus Nerve: Your Body’s Bi-Directional Superhighway

The vagus nerve is one of the most complex and essential components of the autonomic nervous system. Extending from the brainstem all the way down to the pelvic floor, it helps regulate involuntary functions like heart rate, digestion, inflammation, and immune response.

It serves as a two-way communication channel between the brain and body—especially the gut—supporting balance (homeostasis) across multiple systems.

When vagal tone is low or dysregulated, it can contribute to chronic stress, pain, digestive issues, and nervous system imbalances. Supporting vagus nerve health through breathwork, rest, and gentle activation techniques can have powerful effects on overall wellbeing.

Next week, we’ll explore fascia—another vital system deeply connected to vagus nerve function. Together, they’re a powerful duo for healing and regulation. Stay tuned. ✨

🌬️ What is Breathwork & Why Does It Matter?

Breathwork is more than just deep breathing — it’s a focused, intentional practice that uses patterns of inhaling and exhaling to support your physical and emotional well-being.

✨ Why We Love It:
✔️ Calms the nervous system
✔️ Eases chronic pain
✔️ Supports core coordination (yes, your diaphragm, pelvic floor & deep abs!)
✔️ Improves breathing mechanics

Swipe through our favorite technique and learn how to start using it today.
