Working in an environment with unrelenting stressors may significantly affect your health without intentional coping strategies/wellness breaks in place.

Stress activates the body’s fight-or-flight system and the frequency in which the system gets activated, the intensity in which it is felt, and how long it stays activated can lead to the onset of physical health conditions (e.g., cardiovascular, lowered immunity, and autoimmune diseases) and psychological health conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety, substance use, a decline in memory and sleep, and concentration difficulties).

Here are a few helpful strategies to consider!

1). Before starting work, take 2-3 minutes to breathe deeply
2). Establish healthy work boundaries, including leaving work on time and leaving work at work
3). Use assertive communication to express feelings and needs
4). Take mini-wellness breaks throughout the day to stretch your body
5). Go for a 10-min walk on your lunch break
6). Practice saying, “No, I cannot accommodate your request.”
7). Delegate responsibility, where appropriate. You don't have to do it all just because you can.
8.) Engage in perspective-taking
9). Share a positive affirmation with someone
10). Eat healthy
11). Drink more water
12). Get plenty of exercise
13). Download a mindfulness/relaxation app
14). Listen to uplifting music
15). TAKE A MENTAL HEALTH DAY before your body forces you to take time off

REMEMBER: Prioritize WELLNESS to prevent ILLNESS!

Healers, faith-leaders, and justice advocates often pour endlessly into others while quietly running on empty. Today’s workshop, “Nourishing the Vessel,” explored the realities of burnout, compassion fatigue, moral injury, & the silent costs of caring deeply in systems that demand so much. I asked US to move beyond surface-level self-care practices and into the deeper, sustaining work of soul-care, that nurtures the parts of ourselves that connect to purpose, faith, rest, and wholeness.
