Words will never suffice, and we will always remember. 20 years ago today, Katrina changed New Orleans forever. We continue to honor the lives lost, all the helpers, and the incredible resilience of our beloved community. We opened one year after the storm, there were still very few people in the city, and even fewer doctors or specialists to care for our citizens. That reality, even a year in, showcased the spirit and fortitude of New Orleanians. We worked together, forced to do things we weren't trained for, but knew needed to be done. We will always hold a place for this day, but it will never be easy.
