An update from DOTD on the Metairie Road resurfacing project:
The contractor is planning to start the asphalt paving tomorrow (Wednesday) on Metairie Rd. They provided the following schedule. Please keep in mind that the schedule is tentative and weather permitting. The paving operation may get pushed back to next week due to high forecasted chance of rain for the rest of the week.
-Wednesday, pave Metairie Road from Severn Avenue to Glenwood Drive in the eastbound direction (towards Orleans Parish)
-Thursday, pave Metairie Road from Glenwood Drive to Severn Avenue in the westbound direction.
-Friday, pave turnouts (side streets) starting at Causeway Blvd. working the way eastbound.
As the contractor paves next to driveways and side streets, the driveways and side streets will need to be temporarily closed until the asphalt has cooled sufficiently to prevent damage to the roadway surface. This typically takes 15 minutes after the paving equipment passes by.
The paving sequence includes cleaning and sweeping the roadway, applying trackless tack coat, and then proceeding with several dump trucks, a material transfer vehicle (MTV), the asphalt paver, and three vibratory compaction rollers. In all, we anticipate driveways/side street to remain closed for approximately 30 minutes total. The contractor plans to keep their operation tight and efficient to minimize disruption to the traveling public.
