DBT skills are so helpful especially during the holidays. An important strategy for Distress Tolerance is engaging in activities. Choose activities that you naturally lean toward. One of our clients got through a long stay at her sister’s home by swiffering the floors throughout the house when she began to feel activated. You may have some different ideas about what’s effective for you. We’d like to hear about them.

Here’s some great advice.

Ever wondered about the science behind self-soothing? It’s your body’s natural recipe for calm.

When emotions run high, techniques like deep breathing and visualization help lower your heart rate and clear your mind.

It’s how you move from emotional flooding to grounded connection. The more you practice this skill, the easier it becomes to handle stress, together.

This simple 3-step strategy works like magic.
1 STOP - Don’t do or say anything. Breathe.

2 THINK - Is this good for me? Will it get me what I really want and need?

3 MAKE A PLAN - Based on facts, what action/no action will best serve me in the long run?

Spring is a season of fresh starts and new connections. 🌷 Just like flowers turning toward the sun, we can turn toward the people we love when they reach out. Whether it’s a quick text, a vent about a long day, or a little one asking to play.

It’s not about doing it perfectly. It’s about noticing the small moments and choosing to connect. Let love bloom by turning toward each other, one bid at a time.
